The Keefer twins owned a ranch in Bone for many years. Their brand was the Jolly Roger, so the flag may be in honor of them in some way, such as their birthday.

The Keefers were very colorful guys. Their father played a big part in building the first diversion weir in the Snake River, which created the falls, and the twins were very well known around town for many decades. Frank was very colorful- he wore buckskins, and his hair was always very long and often braided. He kept a supply of cigars in his big Stetson hat. His brother Fred was a deputy sheriff for years. Both were taxidermists, and their house was filled with mounts, hides and curiosities.

Fred wrote and got letters back from about 6 Presidents. Frank died about 30 years ago in the 70's, and Fred died around 1992 at the age of 93 (I think).

Keefer's Island is an intriguing place. The past couple of years in the early summer a 'Jolly Roger' has flown over the cabin for a couple of weeks. Anyone know why?
