NEW: Original Thai 2 Brings Spice Of Asia To Idaho Falls

Thumbnail image for NEW: Original Thai 2 Brings Spice Of Asia To Idaho Falls by Perser November 10, 2009

I didn’t see anything on this, so I thought I’d try my hand at actually writing an article.
There’s a new restaurant in town that’s bringing a little culture and a new option to someone looking for a little variety for lunch or dinner. Original Thai 2 has opened on 17th street, and is now [...]

Locally owned restaurants

by tjgoofygrl April 27, 2009

Does anyone have a list of locally owned restaurants that have good service and food? I am still sorta new in town and have ate at a couple of locally owned restaurants, such as Hot Diggity (good dogs), Okies Burgers (great atmosphere), and Happy’s (good service). What about some other ideas and options?

Hard Hat Steakhouse Moves in to Snake River Landing

by JeremyPlo April 16, 2009

Idaho Falls is the new home of Hard Hat Steakhouse, a locally-owned and operated restaurant that started out in Pepsi trailers at Rodeos and is now the largest restaurant in the city.  The menu offers everything from prime rib to spinach and strawberry salads.  The restaurant opened over the weekend to an overwhelming response – [...]

Plant a Row for the Hungry

by Nemesis July 6, 2008

Apparently there is a national campaign for folks to plant extra garden rows of fresh produce and donate the extra food to the local food banks and homeless shelters. Fresh produce is a premium item, difficult to afford on a fixed budget, and donations of such are very welcome. It’s not something that [...]

Paper Checks Belong to a Bygone Era

by geekery April 24, 2008

I saw the flier when I walked into Smitty’s recently, and I read the message, but it did not hit me until I read it again when paying our bill and leaving. The Idaho Falls Smitty’s restaurant will no longer accept personal or business checks!
I think it did not register in my mind at [...]

Is there signficance to restaurant health inspection reports?

by Joe Vandal October 15, 2007

What do you think of restaurant health inspections? What do you think of the Post Register publishing the inspection results? Do the published inspection results cause you to change your eating locations?
These inspections apparently only occur at restaurants once every six months. On one hand, that can cause the report to provide an extremely [...]

Diner Proposed to Serve Airport, Call Centers, and Idaho Falls

by Joe Vandal July 11, 2007

I propose a diner or cafe be located on a vacant lot near the Idaho Falls airport, specifically on International Way.
There is a perfect little spot on the north side of International Way, between the white Scientech building and the call centers’ parking lot. I included the map graphic to give you an idea of [...]

Close Idaho Falls-Area High School Campuses

by Joe Vandal April 18, 2007

I think all Idaho Falls-area high schools should close their campuses for lunch. I believe closed campuses are best for our area because of time and distance required to reach eating establishments, unhealthy food is usually eaten when students leave campus,

Most local high schoolers only get 35 minutes for lunch, barely enough time to [...]

Why I Love Downtown Idaho Falls

by JeremyPlo August 31, 2006

There is a particular something, though it’s unclear what that something is, about downtown Idaho Falls that seems very appealing to me. Whether it’s wasting time playing guitar or bickering about music history (who did the most to damage music, Nirvana or Limp Bizkit!?) at Ziel Company, enjoying a slice of warm bread from [...]

One Hell of a Sandwich

by JeremyPlo August 7, 2006

The other day, my wife and I were visiting our good friends the Hansons who recently opened a new salon on A street, and we suddenly found ourselves craving some sandichey goodness. Across the street, we found Geraldine’s Bakery, and decided to give it a try.
Geraldine’s makes one hell of a sandwich.
So this gave [...]

Local restaurant run only by high school students

by Joe Vandal May 15, 2006

KIFI Local News 8 recently reported on Sandcreek Middle School’s great in-school food service, ‘The Firepit’. The report strangely says that no other restaurants offer something unique (?), but the unique aspect of ‘The Firepit’ is that students are the waiters, chefs, and delivery people. They field menus around school and in their classroom’s tabled [...]

Dinner and a Movie-Part 1

by Joe Vandal April 6, 2006

Work has been stressful lately, so my brilliant wife got a babysitter and took me out for dinner and a movie last Saturday night. Part 1 will be the dinner review , part 2 will be the movie review.
We went to Texas Roadhouse, only my third time there. The first was a couple years ago, [...]

Sonic shakes good but sloppy

by Joe Vandal March 20, 2006

I cannot stomach Sonic food, but the shakes are great for the kids. When you pull up to the drive-thru order station, they always acknowledge you then ask you to wait (at least at the west 17th street location). This used to annoy me, but then I realized at least they acknowledge you are there [...]

Hot dogs: Home Depot vs. Sam’s Club

by Joe Vandal March 11, 2006

I could smell the hot dogs cooking outside as I did the self-checkout thing at our local Home Depot. The smell was delicious, and I resolved to finally buy one. Three things stopped me as soon as I walked out the door towards the hot dog stand.
There was a line, there was nowhere to [...]

Local Students Can Submit Teacher Feedback

by zeth 1337 February 28, 2006

This may cause some local disruption, but life’s short, right?

District 91 is near the end of their second trimester, so it seems a good time to let students in our area know they can give feedback about their teachers at a wonderful site called ratemyteachers.com. Local college students can rate their professors at a similar [...]

Puerto Vallarta is dependably delicious

by Joe Vandal February 24, 2006

Whenever I want good Mexican food, I know I can depend on Sol Rio or Puerto Vallarta. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems Sol de Rio is a corporate franchise, while Puerto Vallarta is locally-owned? Please post a comment to correct me if I am wrong on that.
So last night the family wanted great Mexican [...]

Where have all the vendors gone?

by Joe Vandal February 2, 2006

Idaho Falls could really use some food vendors around our greenbelt. Several people say they wish they could buy a hot dog, fries, or various drinks while walking around our main natural landmark. Think of all the tourist dollars walking around the greenbelt that could be spent here and there.

How to avoid having our [...]

Hong Kongs are da bomb

by BuddhAllahrist January 22, 2006

Chinese food is great at the Hong Kong restaurant on Broadway and the New Hong Kong off 17th street. The employees are always courteous and attentive to diners. The food is always great, and delivered quickly. Prices are cheap for helpings that fill most everyone.
My last fortune cookie read “You have a keen sense [...]

Broadway McDonalds Barely Functions

by Joe Vandal December 26, 2005

The McDonald’s restaurant on Broadway (part of a Chevron gas station) has been experiencing several problems lately and should be avoided until they fix themselves.
I eat burger meals between two and four times weekly, so I am well aware of how the local fast food places are functioning. This McDonald’s seems to always be [...]

Domino’s Woes from Big Sale

by the VP December 23, 2005

A buddy told me about how today his bosses bought 50 pizzas from a local Domino’s. That’s right, 50, F-I-F-T-Y pizzas in one delivery order! How did Domino’s react to the order? The delivery guy chewed out my buddy’s boss for placing the huge order without prior notice. He complained he ran out of dough, [...]

Reed’s Dairy is Really Delicious

by Joe Vandal November 17, 2005

The small Reed’s Dairy store on west Broadway is a great local treat.
The ice cream is obviously their biggest draw. It is made fresh on site and they offer many interesting flavors. You can also take home a tub for about $5. Right now Reed’s has their seasonal pumpkin ice cream for only $3.50 per [...]

Broadway Burger King is Uber-Fast

by BuddhAllahrist November 15, 2005

Fast food is fast food, and Burger King is Burger King. You either like it or hate it, or go through phases of liking and hating various fast food restaurants. However, the Burger King on Broadway is noteworthy for consistently having really fast drive-thru service. There is a play area inside, but bad parents often [...]
