The Idaho Statesman says 56-year-old Blake Hall was sued Monday in 7th District Court by Allison Chambers and her husband, John Chambers. Hall is also the former Idaho Republican [...]

Defending America

by Chick Heileson December 11, 2009

One of the key purposes for creating our Union was to provide for the common defense of the states and the people. To ensure that we have liberty we must be protected from enemies both foreign and domestic. Defending the Constitution of the United States from those enemies is part of the oath that every soldier [...]

Free Market Economics

by Chick Heileson December 4, 2009
Thumbnail image for Free Market Economics

About a month ago, the Federal Reserve announced its goal to grasp even more control over the banking industry by seeking veto power over the pay policies of any bank of its choosing.  We already know about the many bailouts and “stimulus” packages passed by Congress within the last year.  If the solution to our [...]

“Insuring” Good Health

Thumbnail image for “Insuring” Good Health by Chick Heileson December 2, 2009

As Congress currently debates a massive government overhaul of our nation’s healthcare system, it seems a fundamental question is being left out of the debate: “Does the federal government have any right to discuss how to manage your personal health?”
The current administration is pushing for a government-run plan that will compete with private insurance plans. [...]

We the People – An Educated Electorate

Thumbnail image for We the People – An Educated Electorate by Chick Heileson November 30, 2009

Today, public esteem for politicians is generally pretty low. A recent Rasmussen survey found that 73% of Americans trust the judgment of the American people more than the judgment of political leaders. Their surveys also found that “by a two-to-one margin, voters believe that no matter how bad things are, Congress can always make them [...]

Old Glory

Thumbnail image for Old Glory by Phil Damon November 19, 2009

This is going to get me flack from some of my readers, I know it.  Yet at the same time I have to ask: “What is Sarah doing?”
Dailyfinance.com recently ran a story where the picture [left] taken for “Runners World” was sold against contract orders to Newsweek.
Questions of “sexism” and contract breaches run throughout the [...]

Thumbnail image for Obama Cleaning up U.S. Image by For The People November 6, 2009

Obama has been scrambling to clean up a struggling U.S. economy, save the auto industry and banking industry, and provide better health care across the board for all United States Citizens. He faces uphill battles in several of these areas with opposition from republicans, radio talk show hosts, and opponents to health care reform. [...]

According to the Associated Press,  new laws passed in the state of North Carolina last year made it illegal for a convicted sex offender named James Nichols to attend worship services at his Baptist church due to the presence of a daycare facility on the grounds.  On March 28, 2009, he was arrested at his [...]

Does the Majority Really Decide Who Sits in the Oval Office?

Thumbnail image for Does the Majority Really Decide Who Sits in the Oval Office? by Kevin M. Wrathson October 16, 2009

A group called called National Popular Vote is a corporation that was founded by, among others, John Koza (inventor of the scratch-off lottery ticket) for the purpose of promoting the establishment of an interstate compact which would change the way our nation elects its president.  According to Mr. Koza, who has written and published a [...]

What?  What is that suppose to mean?  Roll over and play stupid?
I mean, come on!  We’re supposedly living in the greatest Country in the world.  H E double L, Lincoln even extended freedom to our black brothers and sisters.  We no longer draft citizens into the military but allow them to voluntarily sign-up for duty; [...]

Why Did Local Schools Opt-out of the Obama Speech?

Thumbnail image for Why Did Local Schools Opt-out of the Obama Speech? by Alice September 17, 2009

I’m curious why the local schools chose to opt-out of the Obama speech? At first, it just seemed counter-productive to me to miss a great chance for in-class dialogue and debate, or discussion at home. No matter what he was talking about, I couldn’t fathom that it could be so bad that school kids, his intended audience, shouldn’t be allowed to hear it. I also worried that it would make Idaho, once again, look backward and uninformed, but I didn’t know if schools in other states had opted out of the speech.

Healthcare is Not a Right

by ronnate August 10, 2009

Ironically, when government violates our God-given rights in an attempt to provide entitlements, it becomes the very criminal it was created to destroy.

Sheriff Obama…

by ferg July 28, 2009

I’ve often heard it said, “The proper role of government is to provide equal rights, not equal things” That said, why then does President Obama feel that he as the right to intervene on a matter involving one of his friends, just because he has legal experience?

Tea Party and Memorial Day Rally

by The Gadsden May 21, 2009

I was glad to see mention of this weekend’s Memorial Day Rally and Tea Party activity posted on the poll. Unfortunately, after reading the live chat portion of the blog, I realized many of the readers unaware of the details for the rally.
That being said, the Memorial Day rally is a great way to [...]

Is cannabis the cure for cancer?

by slu2 May 5, 2009

@Joe Eagle  — I have been fighting with this issue for a long time, and it helps me to cope by participating in this discussion with others.   It may be too much to ask for you to post a 3rd article on marijuana legalization.   If so, I understand.  I won’t be offended if you don’t [...]

The Cyber Security Act of 2009

by Marcus April 21, 2009

From a member (mEATfLAPs) of one of several internet communities that I frequent:
I’ve been hearing a lot about the Cyber Security Act of 2009 in the past month or so. This bill is not being covered much if at all by the regular news outlets. In case you don’t know what the CSA [...]

Obama’s European “Blame America” Tour

by hallistone April 14, 2009

The following was written by Richard Larsen, and published in the Idaho State Journal (Pocatello newspaper).

There is a common malady that afflicts many of our American comrades, known as the Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS), where everything wrong with the world is blamed on our former president. A corollary to that is BAS, or the “Blame [...]

Marijuana Tax Day Protest – TAX US!

by slu2 April 10, 2009

According to recent government polls, at least 40 million Americans (who will admit it), have smoked marijuana in the last year.
Atleast 15 million Americans have smoked marijuana in the last month.
According to a Harvard Economics professor, American tax payers could see a 77 Billion dollar per year boost in government tax revenue.
Marijuana is safer than [...]

A Little Military History

by hallistone April 3, 2009

Written by Thomas Kime, of Howe
While listening to one of our local talk shows, I heard a question asked by a seemingly elderly gentleman. It was one of the most naive and uninformed of all the questions I have ever heard. The question was, “Do you believe that the US military would go around door [...]

The Otter Oddity: The Stimulus Bill in Idaho Going to Waste

by Jeremy Plothow March 14, 2009

A few weeks back, Governor C.L. Otter was publically debating whether or not he would be taking any of the money provided by the Democrat-backed and highly politically divisive Economic Stimulus Bill.  There was a sense in America that the bill’s fate rested in the hands of partisan politics as usual – “red” states were [...]

In doing this, many differences between members of this community have been pointed out. Yet, most all of us always return and continue to express our [...]

Idaho Falls Area Thoughts on the Final 2008 Presidential Debate

by Nikola Tesla October 13, 2008

I’m looking forward to the final presidential debate this Wednesday – I can’t help it.  Regarding the financial crisis, I wish either candidate would show the leadership regarding personal finances and use of credit that many non-politicians I know of have displayed.  If you want to find true leaders, look for those who have been [...]

The Bailout Blame Game

by Bundy October 8, 2008

So, the blame game has started on bailouts. What amazes me is how and why McCain and Republicans are getting most of the blame for this mess when it was the Democrats who rebuffed efforts to regulate and reform government mandated lending policies. Yes, Virginia, these mandated laws forced banks to lend money to folks [...]
