by Scuttlebutt December 11, 2009

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) – The Republican National Committee’s former chief lawyer has been sued for civil damages by a woman he pleaded guilty to stalking. The Idaho Statesman says 56-year-old Blake Hall was sued Monday in 7th District Court by Allison Chambers and her husband, John Chambers. Hall is also the former Idaho Republican [...]

Defending America

by Chick Heileson December 11, 2009

One of the key purposes for creating our Union was to provide for the common defense of the states and the people. To ensure that we have liberty we must be protected from enemies both foreign and domestic. Defending the Constitution of the United States from those enemies is part of the oath that every soldier [...]

Free Market Economics

by Chick Heileson December 4, 2009
Thumbnail image for Free Market Economics

About a month ago, the Federal Reserve announced its goal to grasp even more control over the banking industry by seeking veto power over the pay policies of any bank of its choosing.  We already know about the many bailouts and “stimulus” packages passed by Congress within the last year.  If the solution to our [...]

“Insuring” Good Health

Thumbnail image for “Insuring” Good Health by Chick Heileson December 2, 2009

As Congress currently debates a massive government overhaul of our nation’s healthcare system, it seems a fundamental question is being left out of the debate: “Does the federal government have any right to discuss how to manage your personal health?”
The current administration is pushing for a government-run plan that will compete with private insurance plans. [...]

Old Glory

Thumbnail image for Old Glory by Phil Damon November 19, 2009

This is going to get me flack from some of my readers, I know it.  Yet at the same time I have to ask: “What is Sarah doing?”
Dailyfinance.com recently ran a story where the picture [left] taken for “Runners World” was sold against contract orders to Newsweek.
Questions of “sexism” and contract breaches run throughout the [...]

Blake Hall – Police Report! (in a searchable text format)

Thumbnail image for Blake Hall – Police Report! (in a searchable text format) by Eavesdropper November 15, 2009

I have read that Blake Hall plead guilty and has spent time in jail, or is spending some time in jail as we speak.  I’ve read discussion on this site that ranges from accusing Blake Hall of basically being a relentless stalker, to what someone might call a broken hearted victim of a cruel women.
So, [...]

According to the Associated Press,  new laws passed in the state of North Carolina last year made it illegal for a convicted sex offender named James Nichols to attend worship services at his Baptist church due to the presence of a daycare facility on the grounds.  On March 28, 2009, he was arrested at his [...]

Does the Majority Really Decide Who Sits in the Oval Office?

Thumbnail image for Does the Majority Really Decide Who Sits in the Oval Office? by Kevin M. Wrathson October 16, 2009

A group called called National Popular Vote is a corporation that was founded by, among others, John Koza (inventor of the scratch-off lottery ticket) for the purpose of promoting the establishment of an interstate compact which would change the way our nation elects its president.  According to Mr. Koza, who has written and published a [...]

What?  What is that suppose to mean?  Roll over and play stupid?
I mean, come on!  We’re supposedly living in the greatest Country in the world.  H E double L, Lincoln even extended freedom to our black brothers and sisters.  We no longer draft citizens into the military but allow them to voluntarily sign-up for duty; [...]

Newspapers, the next bailout?

by Neal Larson September 21, 2009

The Hill has been reporting this weekend that President Obama may be open to bailing out the newspaper industry. A bill in the Senate would offer government help to newspapers that re-organize as non-profits. We know that the Post Register has had their financial struggles — like most other newspapers across the country– and I’d [...]

Why Did Local Schools Opt-out of the Obama Speech?

Thumbnail image for Why Did Local Schools Opt-out of the Obama Speech? by Alice September 17, 2009

I’m curious why the local schools chose to opt-out of the Obama speech? At first, it just seemed counter-productive to me to miss a great chance for in-class dialogue and debate, or discussion at home. No matter what he was talking about, I couldn’t fathom that it could be so bad that school kids, his intended audience, shouldn’t be allowed to hear it. I also worried that it would make Idaho, once again, look backward and uninformed, but I didn’t know if schools in other states had opted out of the speech.

Why does the media persist in honoring Michael Jackson?

by The Gadsden July 13, 2009

I do not know about you, but I am absolutely tired and concerned about the media’s coverage and love affair with Michael Jackson. We are nearing the month anniversary of Jackson’s death and the media has refused to let him die. Is there not anything better to cover? Is there not actual news happening elsewhere [...]

The Taliban in Pakistan

by AppleJack May 6, 2009

The Taliban is taking over Pakistan and looking to gain control over the capital.  President Obama is deeply concerned about the situation. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090506/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_us_pakistan
As we all know Pakistan has nuclear weapons and God help us all if the Taliban takes over that country’s nuclear arsenal.  This is going to be a huge test for the Obama [...]

Obama’s European “Blame America” Tour

by hallistone April 14, 2009

The following was written by Richard Larsen, and published in the Idaho State Journal (Pocatello newspaper).

There is a common malady that afflicts many of our American comrades, known as the Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS), where everything wrong with the world is blamed on our former president. A corollary to that is BAS, or the “Blame [...]

Pirates!

by untwisted April 9, 2009

For my whole life, being a pirate has meant something. A group of people has to do some special things to be called Pirates. They have to take over possession of cities or ships at sea, maybe even caravans in the desert. They have to act as true marauders, killing, raping, and pillaging everything they’ve [...]

Do Renters Truly Destroy Neighborhoods?

by my4sons March 12, 2009

I just read a recent MSN article, entitled Many towns tightening “no rental” rules. The fact that homeowners nationwide are having a tough time selling their homes, given the current economic situation and housing markets, is no surprise. However, the article said many Home Owners Associations (HOA’s), and even some community leaders, across the nation [...]

What does it mean to be American?

by Joe Plumber March 8, 2009

Since joining this site just a few months ago, I have had the pleasure to read, review, and debate many of the comments posted here at Idaho Falls Today. In doing this, many differences between members of this community have been pointed out. Yet, most all of us always return and continue to express our [...]

The Bailout Blame Game

by Bundy October 8, 2008

So, the blame game has started on bailouts. What amazes me is how and why McCain and Republicans are getting most of the blame for this mess when it was the Democrats who rebuffed efforts to regulate and reform government mandated lending policies. Yes, Virginia, these mandated laws forced banks to lend money to folks [...]

Should English be America’s Official Language?

by JeremyPlo January 25, 2007

I have always leaned to the left when it comes to social issues, save on the issue of taxes and fiscal responsibility.  However, recent events have brought to my attention a growing problem in America, one that stems the our inability to resolve our issues with our borders.  There is a culture crisis in America [...]
