Idaho Freedom Foundation: Meridian City Begins Posting Financial Data

If Meridian can do this, why not Idaho Falls?  Why not our school districts? - Halli
Meridian officials have notified the Idaho Freedom Foundation that the city will soon begin posting line-item expenditure data on the municipality’s website. That makes Meridian the fourth Idaho community to agree to a new level of transparency, allowing citizens to [...]

Is Idaho Falls beautiful?

Anyone ever been to the east coast and seen all of the thick green trees everywhere? Or to Alaska and seen the massive mountains and glacier waterfalls? Or even to southern Utah and seen the funky other planet looking landscapes?  My question to people who have been around this country is, Is Idaho Falls beautiful [...]

Area activity - Support your local Improv group

We all know that times are tough. What we need right now is some low budget quality entertainment. I have just the ticket. Improv Underground.
Improv Underground is a group of six locals that decided to get together to provide just that. Having performed in Rexburg, Idaho Falls and Shelley, Improv Underground is East Idaho’s Premiere [...]

A local city ordinance only allows two dogs per household.

I just read an article published yesterday that stated the City of Shelley has an ordinance that restricts canine ownership to just two dogs per household. The last time this ordinance was actively discussed was over 33 years ago.
Why now, asks Linda Fitzpatrick?
Linda is the Shelley resident and dog owner that the story highlights. [...]

City proposes a face-lift for Memorial Drive and the riverfront. Is it cause for concern? What about downtown parking and traffic?

I knew the City of Idaho Falls was considering a few new concepts regarding downtown’s Memorial Drive. I had gathered the info for a future post, yet felt it might be too early to start the conversation until things solidified. Now that the Post Register has the story on their front page, I guess now [...]

This was reported the the police department, who took over 45 [...]

Should the Farmers’ Market Move?

I think it’s time for the Idaho Falls Farmers’ Market to move.  It’s crowded, it creates tremendous pedestrian congestion around those two intersections (Broadway and Capital, and Broadway and Memorial) as people try to find parking elsewhere and then walk to get there (very few spaces left in the same parking lot).

Folks also park in [...]

IF City Taxes to Increase?

Per the Post Register today, there is a very real possibility that the City of Idaho Falls is about to raise property taxes.  The PR estimate was a $23 annual increase on a home worth $150,000.

Why the need for the increase?  Was the recent 2.86% levy decrease a bit premature?

The article mentions that the mayor [...]

Idaho Falls day-care ordinance gets passed

The Post Register this morning (you might need to have a login) is reporting that the city council passed a day-care ordinance that has been pretty controversial in the past, but there wasn’t much controversy last night.
According to the article, anyone over 12 working at a daycare would have to have a background check done. [...]
