Those of us who like raising families here know what it's all about. Maybe it's a sense of affirmation to our choice, even unconsciously. The rankings are always published by magazines, intended to increase copy sales in those ranked cities by yokels who get excited that they were ranked at all. Try to find one person who moved to a city because it was ranked on one of these lists. These lists are meaningless. I think you're right about the ranking. It looks like Businessweek actually focused on cities state-by-state. It's still good recogntion, I suppose, albeit a little misleading in their presentation. Every State had a city represented. We are just 13th in the slide show. The slideshow is not ranked from top to bottom. This is driven by a real estate marketing firm. Sad that some, including our City elected officials grab such marketing stuff and proclaim the results like they are scientific certainty. There are better and worse places for kids. I have lived all over the US and raised kids in several areas including this one. I am glad my Grand kids are being raised elsewhere, which "may or may not be because of the local religious influences". Oh, since local news media and the City do NOT publish crime stats (like Poky does) I recommend everyone get a scanner and listen to what our wonderful dedicated police force deal with every night and then decide if we have a drug or alcohol issue. Any of us who have lived here more than a few years can't help but acknowledge that it's a great place for raising kids. I often marvel at the constant stream of events that the community offers, from arts festivals to athletic programs, science camps and more. And very little of it is cost-prohibitive. Way to go I.F.! My only complaint is that we are not actually HIGHER on the list... This is great recognition. We don't have near the problems of alcohol and drugs that other places deal with. That may or may not be because of the local religious influences, but it's nice to not have to worry about that as much.
