I didn’t see anything on this, so I thought I’d try my hand at actually writing an article.
There’s a new restaurant in town that’s bringing a little culture and a new option to someone looking for a little variety for lunch or dinner. Original Thai 2 has opened on 17th street, and is now one of only a few restraints that give variety to a traditionally limited list of food choices in Idaho Falls.
I stepped into the Original Thai 2 not knowing what to expect. The looks of the place aren’t all that impressive, and the menu looks like it could have been part of a 5th grader’s art project. For me, I enjoy a variety of food types (I can’t think of a single a type of food I don’t enjoy ) . What makes the difference for me is the quality. And that is where this new Thai restaurant kicked some booty! The food at this place is outstanding! Different from anything else in town. Based on my trip there, I highly recommend the Green Curry with chicken or beef. And you’ve got to try the Summer Rolls! Fresh (not fried) rice-paper wrapped role with lettuce, shrimp, cucumbers and noodles, with a side of what they called “peanut sause”. I’d also recommend the Chicken Satay – which also comes with that delicious peanut sause. (my mouth has started to water just writing this)
There is another Thai restaurant in town located downtown, I’ve been there. My experience there was fair at best. The Original Thai 2 has given me a reason to take a second look at Thai food. In fact, this is a place I think I could fall in love with.
There are two things I could see for areas of improvement for this place – 1) They could upgrade the image, the food is outstanding, it would be nice if the atmosphere matched the quality of the food. 2) The air was just a bit “muggy”, maybe the place just needs a bit better ventilation.
I was curious about the odd name: “Original Thai 2” I was wondering what the “2” is all about, so I asked. It turns out there has been an “Original Thai” hidden in the little town of Rexburg for a little while now. The two locations share the same owners, and so I anticipate they share the same menus.
If you’re looking for a great new experience for lunch or dinner, try the food at the Original Thai 2, and be ready for an experience in Idaho Falls like never before.

Sounds good. I’ll see if me and the mrs can make it there this weekend.
Good post Perser.
Wife and I have been there a few times. The last order I had was the curry chicken (D-LISH); but everything I’ve had there so far has been great. I’ve been to good Thai restaurants in California and in Asia (not yet Thailand though) and from what I’ve had so far, the food is at least as good.
Try it out and leave a good tip all you stingy bums.
I plan on trying this soon, it sounds great.
Awesome restaurant! I’ve been 4 or 5 times after a recommendation from a friend who had been to the Rexburg location and thought it was excellent. My picky 3 year old even loves the pad thai–the first item on the menu. No promises for other picky 3 year olds, but I was impressed! Besides really good food, the prices are reasonable and the service is top notch.
I’ve been to this restaurant once, and that will be the last. THe portions were small, the food was merely palatable, and the prices were high. Go Elsewhere.
This is the best Thai food in town. I love their curry dishes. My girlfriend is vegetarian and loved her tofu and noodles. I went on my birthday and have been back a lot of times. I LOVE THEIR YELLOW CURRY! LOVE IT!
The food was merely palatable and the portions were small? Did you go with Woody Allen?
Actually I went with my wife. We walked into the building and sat down. They brought us menus and we ordered. Then they brought out the standard sized dinner plates. The food covered about 3/4 of the plate. I ordered something I had eaten at other Thai restaurants and knew I would like. Unfortunately, their version was poorly made and wasn’t very good. My wife didn’t enjoy hers either. We did manage to pay over $30 for that awful meal, but luckily we were able to eat as soon as we got home since the meal was not filling.
I found their portions very filling. I’ve been there for lunch and dinner and the dinner portions are almost too much for me to eat in one sitting. You must be very large Mr. Anonymous. Good thing piggies like you have food stashed at home so you don’t get a tummy ache. Seriously! The food is great there. I bet you work at one of the other thai restaurants and are trying to get people to stay away from the best food in town! Jealous are we?
Thanks for the name calling.
Alrighty then…..
How are the prices? I think we’ll try them this weekend.
I will say, the food here is excellent. I however do agree with the anonymous guy. The prices seem high for what you’re getting. It’s a $10 a plate affair. I base this not off of how much you get there. Though I will say I finish it off every time now. Before it was Original Thai in Rexburg it was Teton Thai in 2007 or 08. Plates were $7 and I always took some of the food home because was so much. So when compared to what it used to be I am dissapointed. Though I still go there a few times a year to treat myself
