What makes you so sure your freedoms aren’t being protected by the incumbents? Have any one of the City Council, or the Council as a group, taken any of your freedoms away?

If so, which ones? Or is your post just empty rhetoric? I’d like to see some specifics.

The most important question is: who has the backbone to stand up and protect our rights and freedoms? If you think that the Federal government is out of hand then one better consider his/her Local government. It starts somewhere. When it comes to values check your own first. As a rule, people vote for the candidate that is a reflection of themselves. I believe it is time to show everyone that Idaho Falls does care about its citizens by protecting personal freedoms and rights by voting for a candidate that will ensure it.

Lets stop with the accusations towards Alex’s son unless he was found guilty of sexual harrassment. Tenants who are about to be evicted for lack of payment can say anything they want. I have known good people who have been accused of the exact same thing just because a tenant was trying to escape responsibility. If someone can come forward with actual proof of his son’s guilt then I guess it could be relevant. But I also know lots of good parents who have children that make horrible decisions. Should we hold all parents accountable for their children’s decisions forever?

Creek is the one who drug values into this by seeking the republic endorsement and making values part of his plank. If its true that his son is harassing tenants then it could be very important if Creek has done nothing to stop it. It would be a black mark on his so called values.

Alex Creek is the one who wanted to drag values into this election by seeking a republican endorsement based on his values. If the claim about his son sexually harassing tenant’s of Creek’s is true then that is a very enlightening nugget about Creek’s values if the son is allowed to continue having access to the tenants (I’m assuming the son is a property manager or some such thing).

@Guest- Do you really want to bring in the live’s of the candidates children into the mix? Let’s stay on topic…Ida will bring more of the same philosophy of government that’s been there…more government, more skate and handicap parks, more arms length real estate transactions (think Farrs Candy building) more babysitting regulations, and most importantly, more tax burden. Alex represents a fresh perspective of transparency, less government, and less tax burden.

Everyone should be most concerned about Alex Creek’s claim that the city budget was increased by $13 million and ran a $27 million deficit last year, when any records check (like the PR did) proves just the opposite: the budget was reduced $13 million last year and the city is legally prohibited from operating a deficit.

Alex Creek must either be such an idiot that he cannot tell a positive from a negative and how city budgets legally operate, or he is a plain liar that will do anything for a measly city council office.

Does Alex Creek own the Creekside apartments that were labeled slums in another discussion on this website? Wasn’t Alex Creek’s son accused of sexual harassment by several women tenants? Is Alex Creek a local slumlord?

Or do we have a person who wants to lower his own tax burden seeing as he’s a slum er landlord er rental property owner. I’m always wary when a big property owner comes in on a platform of lower property taxes and little else. I’ll still be voting for him as a way of voting against Ida but I’m not going to be happy about it.

Actually what we want is a person willing to stand up to the yea yea current group of council persons that scratch each others backs and apparently even those of their friends and donors. Alex will bring a fresh perspective to a blighted group. A vote for Alex Creek will be a vote for local government accountability and much needed transparency.

Wow I am also a successful (former) local businessman, and I’m a property owner. Maybe I should be councilman? This is the same line Vucovich tried to feed us last election, that he deserved to be councilman because he was so great at paying his property taxes. Isn’t that a Chris Rock comedy bit, about people trying to make a normal responsibility sound like they are Mr. Incredible? Paying your taxes is not a character trait, it’s what you are supposed to do!

And does anyone know what this business is that Alex Creek is so successful at?

The city council is supposed to be non-partisan, so beware of these candidates who jump in with obviously partisan statements.

They are trying to stir up trouble in the race, and that should tell you they’ll be nothing but trouble if elected. Close your eyes and recall Lyon Larry, who spent more time battling the press and police over his public image than he did effectively serving Idaho Falls.

Is another Lyon Larry what you want from a city councilperson?

I’m also concerned about how Creek and apparently Erhardt keep touting their “conservative values” as if that has anything to do with a city council seat in Idaho Falls. It doesn’t matter if your pro gay marriage or anti. Pro abortion or anti. For the war or against the war. These aren’t issues that have any relevance to an Idaho Falls city council seat. Issues of relevance are garbage collections, our parks, our police and fire service, our city employees pay and benefits, our roads, our relationship with Ammon, our electrical service, etc. None of them are conserative issues or liberal issues. The repetitive touting of “conservative values” seems like an attempt to bring partisanship in a position that is utterly non partisan.

Another post where we get absolutely nothing indicating what this guy wants to do if elected.

Like I just said in the other thread, I want to vote against Hardcastle as well but I want to know that my vote is going to someone who won’t be worse. The devil you know (Hardcastle and Cornwell) could turn out to be less bad than the new ones.

Give us some details, not vague philosphies.

Tell us you want to cut this and this. Or you want to expand this and this. Or you support building a convention center. Or that you oppose it. Tell us how you feel about city employees, their wages, and benefits. Tell us if you plan to build more parks. Tell us how you feel about the proposed greenbelt expansion. I don’t give a flying anything about your values because they are irrelevant to a city council seat.
