It seems that we need some ideas on ways to keep our kids busy this summer. We all know that busy kids get in less trouble. Let’s post some ideas here. Anyone who has raised kids has probably got some inventive ideas.
Both of my kids were working summers with locally owned restaurants when they were fourteen, and they’ve both worked ever since. They were lucky to have friends working there already, but it never hurts to ask. I was kind of disappointed when my son tried to use a temp service this summer and was informed that he can’t because he is under eighteen. I’m sure there are reasons, but I think the services are missing a possible opportunity.
As far as the younger ones, I was one of those “single mothers” that the chat box is having so much fun with right now. I had to work, and they had to go to daycare, couldn’t do anything about that, but we were lucky enough to live by a park most of the time, so we took advantage of that any evening that I could. I made time to have our time together. The young ones are pretty easy, a walk in the evening, just to the convenience store, is good for them. Whenever I could, I would take them walking at the river, or to one of the playgrounds at the park. It was even nicer when one of my friends would bring their kids along.
What ideas, whatever the age, do you have for helping the kids stay busy while also squeezing in quality time?

I enjoy a good water balloon fight or swimming at one of the local lakes. Camping is always a great activity if you have some time invest. Sitting under a shady tree and reading a mystery novelto the kids isn’t half bad either.
If you have girls how about painting your fingernails together. Take turns on each other.
The boys seem to like mud fights.
Base – gotta know – male or female? If you’re a guy, you’re got a lot of balls to be painting your nails with the girls, and that’s a hell of a commendable act!
Chores work, believe it or not, as long as you work with them. Camping is a good one, swimming, movies, all that good stuff…but I have young ones that don’t have the time away from mom and dad to get in trouble yet (19 months, 6 and 8)!
Female.
