As the weather gets nicer I notice more and more scooters and motorcycles out (including mine). I also notice that there are several parking spaces taken up by these vehicles.
I propose smaller parking spaces, placed close to destinations, to reward people who are driving smaller “greener” vehicles. This would also free-up spaces for cars, as the cycles and scooters would be parked in their own place.
The only downside I can think of is a possible domino-effect, so the spaces would have to be at least big enough to avoid that catastrophe.
Any thoughts?

Give me a break. That’d give us Handicapped Spaces, Senior Citizen Spaces, Expectant Mother Spaces, and Green Vehicle Spaces.
Regular citizens with regular vehicles would end up 5 spaces back before they could even bother looking for a space and the next move would be Pickups and Full Size SUV’s at the back of the lot.
Me thinks we have plenty of special parking arrangements at this time, why on earth would we want to make things any more difficult than they already are?
I drive a vehicle powered by my own sense of self-satisfaction. Can I have a special parking spot too? Perferably, one inside the store.
Maybe they could design parking racks for scooters and motorcycles like they have at the dry cleaners for clothing and sleeping bags? But instead of horizontally, the racks revolve vertically up the side of the building. Sweet!
I don’t know about the rest of you…but when parking is spare it IS kinda frustrating to see 4 or 5 scooters or motorcycles parked in indiviual parking spaces when in the same amount of space you could fit at least 2 or 3 of them and save room for the larger vehicles.
I don’t know about “greener” parking spaces, but how about some select smaller spaces. These could actually fit where a normal space wouldn’t so may prove to have it’s advantages.
The dry cleaner idea brings on quite a picture, lol.
I do notice a lot of people simply park on the sidewalk in front of the stores, but I’ve never really felt comfortable doing that.
Bloop, if you get a spot inside the store, I get valet service and loading/unloading free by store employees.
Maybe a long walk in the parking lot would be a good thing with our obesity problem, walk those legs !
I agree w/Pobug. I’ve always parked in the back forty regardless of what vehicle I’m driving. It serves two purposes: keeps my vehicle from being dinged and I get a little excercise at the same time.
I find it amusing to watch cars circle the parking lot looking for the closest possible space to keep from having to walk anymore than they have to.
Good points made. It never hurts to walk a bit.
The smaller spaces really wouldn’t have to be closer to the shops since people riding generally wouldn’t have issues with walking a bit, and we don’t usually buy a whole lot cuz we can only carry so much.
