Recognizing Local Business

I know we have a post that lists locally owned restaraunts, but I wanted to write a post that recognizes local business.  I recently purchased a new “used” vehicle from South-Town Sales and I wanted to let everyone know what great service I received.  Their located at 5634 S. Yellowstone Hwy and their number is 522-0070.

I’ve purchased quite a few vehicles over the years, both new and used, in at least a dozen different cities across the country and I can honestly say the guys over at South-Town were the nicest and most helpful of any of the sales people I’ve dealt with over the years.  This is a family owned dealership owned & operated by Kurt & Jeremy Hathaway, a father & son team.  They were both extremely helpful and gave me a great deal on the vehicle I purchased.  There was no pressure, no haggling over price and they did everything they could to make sure I was satisfied with my purchase.   If you’re in the market for a new car, please check out South-Town.  Their not a large dealership but they’ve got a little bit everything:  Pickups, SUV’s, sportscars, luxury, economy.  Give them a try the next time you’re looking to purchase a vehicle and you want exceptional service.

I’d also like to thank April & the girls over at American General Finance who were equally as helpful.  This was one of the best car buying experiences I’ve had in quite some time and I felt compelled to post a topic recognizing this great locally owned business.

Have you had a good experience with a locally owned business?  If so, please let us know so we can continue give them our support.

You know, I hate to limit this thread to only locally owned business kudos. Hope that’s OK. There are two places in town I continually get great customer service from, one local and one not. The first is “Toms’ Shoe Repair” over on 1st. Excellent, quick service, and this guy can fix more than shoes. I’ve brought in luggage and a couple of other household items he figured out how to repair and make useable again. Prices are super reasonable too.

My other (non-local) kudo goes to Bed Bath and Beyond. I only shop there when I have a bunch of 20% or $5 off coupons. They take expired coupons where the Pocatello store does not. The managers always bend over backwards to help me find what I need and take care of the couple of issues I’ve had with a product.

Remember, just because a place isn’t locally owned, doesn’t mean they don’t employ locals. I think we all need to support each other wherever possible in these times.

Natures Path is a store i like to support. They have very tasteful new age items. I go there a lot to get my crystals, and the people working there can offer lots of help and knowledge as to the crystals. Ive lived elsewhere and there have been more new age stores in other places than here in idaho falls. If you are a new ager its a great place to browse and get supplies. I hope it continues to do good business and i will support it. They also have a massage therapist there also.

Stay away from the Ammon WalMart if you have a nice car and want to keep it that way. They have terrible security there and according to law enforcement vandalism occurs in this parking lot on a weekly basis. And thats only whats being reported. It’s been such an ongoing problem that WalMart has been forced to ugrade and completely replace their enitre outside surveilance system. As it stands now the security cameras they currently have in place are worthless and really only there for show. They can’t provide any useful information for local authorities or to WalMart security.
Shop there at your own risk.
I’ll be shopping at Target from now on.

Wouldn’t this go in the business complaint article? I’m confused as to why you’d “recognize” them here on a “kudo” thread. I take it from your post your car was damaged or vandalized. Could happen anywhere, including our own driveways. I don’t think Walmart is to blame though.

Good point Reader. I’ll re-post it to that thread and email Joe to see if he can delete this one.

For a drug store…I really prefer Hy-Way Drug on Yellowstone Ave. They are well educated, treat their customers well, have a great desire to do good bis’, have positive attitudes and are polite and take responsibility for there actions. I have never had any problems with them, save a couple of times, over the wrong medication…although serious, they corrected the problem right away, and were happy to do so and kept a positive outlook and feedback on it as well. If ever I have a medicine that looks different then I normally get, they will put a note on it that states something like this: “The shape is different, but the medication is the same.”, automatically. They are accurate and know what they are doing. They have a free delivery option, which I use regularly…(please tip by the way…as they deserve it, especially Chris). Kudos to you Hy-Way, because you made My-Day.

Thanks for the info D.Hawkins. That’s great! Ever since Eastgate Drugs went out of business it’s been difficult to find a locally owned pharmacy that provides great service.
Teton Pharmacy is another great local business. I’ve heard good things about Mikes Pharmacy as well.

If you’re looking for a good auto mechanic, I highly recommend Larsen Repair in Iona. They consistently do good work at prices that beat their competition and they will go above and beyond to help when you’re in trouble. We actually live 25 miles from their shop, but will take our vehicles to them every time because we know we’ll be treated fairly.

Motor Vu Drive In

I went to it the other night for the first time since it reopened. However they were having tremendous technical difficulties and there was this horrible buzz coming through with the sound that made it hard to hear the dialogue. Then the sound altogether was lost for about fifteen minutes near the end of Terminator: Salvation.

The reason this is going in the Kudo’s category is that we didn’t even have to ask for a refund, they came around and gave refunds to everyone. I’ve been to other theaters where there have been difficulties and where they have refused to give refunds at all.

After over a year of not being open I (for one) understand technical difficulties :) I too love the two drive in movie theaters in town, they have good people that run them and are a rare find when you have one that is still running, let alone two in the same city.

I hope they get things running smoothly quickly.

I am very happy to know that they are up and running this year. I’ll definitely be visiting soon, I missed it horribly last year.

We purchased a used vehicle from Sexton’s Car Collection, and will definitely go back there first the next time we need a vehicle. Tim Sexton and his staff were the best people we have done business with in a long time when it comes to buying automobiles. Tim dealt honestly with us and gave us more than our money’s worth in the car we purchased. Thanks, Sexton’s!
