Are you interested having a voice in the operation of our local schools? Consider running for a school board seat in your area.
You have until 5 p.m. Friday, April 17, to declare your candidacy by submitting a petition with signatures from at least five voters who live in the zone you want to represent. You also must live in that zone.
All seats are three-year terms, which start in July. Candidates must be at least 18, a United States citizen, must have lived in the zone that is up for election for at least 30 days. Only those who live in the zone up for election can vote on that particular election.
Elections are May 19, 2009.
Applications are available at district offices.
Seats up for election in the Idaho Falls area are:
District 91
Zone 1 – currently represented by Jerry Wixom. He has been on the board since 1988.
Zone 2 – currently represented by David Lent. He has been on the board since 2006.
District 93
Zone 3 – currently represented by Craig Lords. He has been on the board since 2001.

Good post.
I try not to comment on things I don’t know much about, so I don’t comment much about how the schools are run and I wouldn’t run for office. It does seem, however, that there are people on this site that have very strong opinions on this subject and this may be a way for these people to create change.
