A Little Military History

Written by Thomas Kime, of Howe

While listening to one of our local talk shows, I heard a question asked by a seemingly elderly gentleman. It was one of the most naive and uninformed of all the questions I have ever heard. The question was, “Do you believe that the US military would go around door to door and confiscate the guns of US citizens?” Having spent the fifties, sixties, and seventies in the military, I feel qualified to answer. It all depends upon who is the “Tyrant in Chief” in the White House at that time.

Let’s go back to 1859…General Joe Johnston was ordered to Utah to disarm the Mormon people and to arrest and try the leadership of the church for the Mountain Meadows massacre. (The reason that this didn’t happen is that Lincoln declared war on the South and recalled the general.)

In 1956, then President Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne into Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama and removed from office duly elected officials and confiscated guns from the civil authorities. More recently, there were federal troops at Ruby Ridge, Idaho trying to disarm Randy Weaver. Same scenario at Waco, Texas.

If there are still folks out there who believe the US Military won’t make war on you if the right tyrant is in office, just read the history of the US Army under Lincoln, Grant, and Sherman. They didn’t kick the doors down; they burned down the house murdering the women and children and stole anything they wanted by order of the Tyrant in Chief!

What’s with all the right-wing wacko posts lately? I expect much better from this site.

Among other things in this article, calling the President the Tyrant in Chief is way out of line.

Don’t Trish & Halli have their own website to pollute?

I don’t see anyone complaining about excerpts from the Neal Larson show. Now I don’t listen to either show, but I’m sure that someone can tell me a little about the shows and what the differences are.

Also, it doesn’t seem as if the writer is saying anything about the show itself, it seems the writer heard a question and is writing his own answer.

Mr. Kime is famous or maybe infamous would be a better word for his Letters to the Editor in the Post Register. This is just more of the same. He’s really right wing in case you didn’t pick that up.

It takes an old guy to consider events 16 years in the past as ‘recent’. He seemed to forget several more recent incidents that were resolved without any shots being fired. And Gen. Johnson’s troops could have marched into Salt Lake City with plenty of time to spare before the Civil War started. President Buchanan ordered them to hold back long before Lincoln was elected.

It’s just more pick and choose from these wingnuts. They only use whatever parts of the story that suit them.

So, Halli…. how’s that radio job working out?

Thomas Kime, (name edited per poster Road Rage)

First of all, I think you should choose better things to be afraid of – you’re naive to believe that life is long enough to be so afraid of someone taking away your lil’ pistol. Is it possible? Sure it is. But time would be better spent worrying about the very real possibility of an asteroid hitting you.

I find it interesting that you chose not to mention the context of any of these events. For instance you made no mention of the reasons why a U.S. President (aka “Tyrant” in your words) would have to resort to sending troops to disarm.

You purposely “lied by omission” by not providing context. I have no idea what specific incident you’re referring to regarding President Eisenhower for example. But I do know around that time he sent federal troops to Arkansas after the Governor attempted to defy a Supreme Court ruling that ordered the desegregation of all public schools. The soldiers escorted nine African-American students, who became known as the Little Rock Nine, to school.

So if that’s the kind of incident you’re referring to, I guess is that you’re not a big fan of mixed couples.

No right is absolute – you act as though the “right to bear arms” is the only law in the universe. To help you with a simple illustration, your right to swing your arms freely around in public stops at someone else’s face.

The reality is, just as though there are people who shouldn’t have a license to drive, there are many people who have too much unbalanced paranoia to have any business owning a gun.

Actually, no she didn’t write a new post. If you look at the last several posts she has contributed, they are regurgitated nonsense from other like-minded people. Anyone can cut and paste talking points, conservative or otherwise. Is that the kind of new articles the visitors to this site want? Not me. Especially from a hypocrite. She calls herself conservative and Christian while preaching hate and intolerance.

I’ve written a new article, but I don’t think it’s been posted yet. Lets get some other articles so that we can do something besides complain about the ones we don’t like.

Better?

Sometimes the reputation precedes the writer. Thomas Kime of Howe is a well-known nut job in my opinion. He is a prolific writer to the Post Register, where a week ago he described Abraham Lincoln as “a power-mad tyrant”. He is also a frequent caller to the Neal Larson noon radio show where he says similar things.

Let us respond to Thomas’ remarks before passing opinion on the man. General Joe Johnston was ordered to Utah because the Mormons were blatantly engaging in polygamy and openly challenging the government to a gunfight over the issue. They were breaking the law in widespread manner, and the federal government stepped in. Why is this shocking to Thomas?

President Eisenhower sent troops into several southern states to uphold the law which the local rednecks refused to do. Why is this shocking to Thomas?

I won’t even touch the federal situations at Waco and Ruby Ridge. Read the wikipedia articles. The feds were trying to do the right thing in spirit and messed things up.

In none of these cases were the feds going “door to door” confiscating guns from citizens. There were targeting specific lawbreakers (even in Utah, they were targeting the church/state leadership who were advocating polygamy and killing federal officials). Why does Thomas think these were examples of the government confiscating guns door to door?

It is my opinion that Thomas Kime thinks he is smarter than everyone else and is the true bringer of “knowledge and facts”. I quote Thomas: “It was one of the most naive and uninformed of all the questions I have ever heard.” It sounded like a reasonable question to me, but Thomas has to twist it into the most extremely absurd thing he claims to have ever heard. He then presented his arguments which did not address the question which he thought was so naive and uninformed.

Thomas sees the world in a distorted and paranoid view. I wonder what he does for a living, because I would not do any business with him if I knew. He thinks he is helping the world by spreading hate and lies, and there is nobody who can convince him different. The same goes for Halli Stone and the type of writers she posts at her site. That she agrees with Thomas Kime and reprints his stuff indicates how far in the outfield she is, and it makes me sad for our Republican Party.

Newt Gingrich predicted recently that conservatives will splinter into two parties by 2012, due to the moderate conservative majority wanting to distance themselves from extremist crazy people like Thomas Kime. Let him keep ranting and marginalizing himself and his kind further away from true conservatives who actually love America and want to improve things.

How about them apples?

Another point, has anyone ever read in the paper or heard on the Neal Larson show, ever heard Thomas admit he was wrong about any of these extremist arguments that he has made?

I didn’t think so.

Just more of their “sky is falling” fatalism because they are unhappy with how things are going and they have zero power to affect positive change in our world.

Right wing wackjob article obviously.

Hallistone or is it Mr Kime should brush up on their facts a little bit so as not to look so unknowledgable when they post stuff that is so clearly BS.

For instance, the article claims that federal troops were at Ruby Ridge and in Waco when in fact it was federal law enforcement, DEA, ATF, Marshalls Service, FBI, and the like, at those places. Apples and oranges and knowing those facts completely shoots down much of the article.

If you’re going to moderate my comment for language, you should probably observe rule 4 and moderate it for calling BLT a fool as well. Cut the comment as a whole for not observing rule 1 while you’re at it. You can’t pick and choose your moderation just because I threw out the F word — do the whole job.

BLT – Of course I have my panties in a bunch. You just absolved this individual of all responsibility by stating that conservative commentary made him go nuts and murder. It’s an ignorant stance to take.

I agree this is more sour grapes from the minority ignorant rednecks.

The republicans are painting themselves into a corner politically.

They finally answered the challenge to quit complaining about Obama’s budget and propose an alternative of their own, but the only numbers it contained were the page numbers.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/mar/27/robert-gibbs/republican-budget-proposal-lacks-numbers-revenues-/

I must ask where Thomas Kime was educated? He always tells others how they need to get educated and get their facts straight, so I was wondering where Thomas Kime received his education?

You have it backwards, Marcus.
Kime is paranoid first and a conservative secondly. Many other unbalanced conservatives like him share his paranoia.

45 innocent people died last month at the hands of people who think like Kime, but crazier. Kime himself has killed no one that I’ve heard about.

By offering his rants for publication, he IS taking responsibility for them. That is Post Register policy.

Why did D.C.put a ban on guns in D.C. boundaries? Can they get away with it because they aren’t an actual state?

Yes, Kime may seem out there, but I think it is a valid question. How far will the government go?

For those that say, why should we care, I say because this is a “government for the people, by the people.” Not a “government for the government, by the government..”

As for hallistone, have you thought that maybe she is intrigued by what you will all reply to her posts? I know I am. It is very interesting to me to see how strongly people feel about certain things.
