The Real Threat of Swine Flu

by Neal Larson April 30, 2009

I’d like to hear back from everyone on the site what they think of the Swine Flu. So far in Idaho (at this writing), despite a number of tested cases, all have come up negative. I know, it’s still early, and I don’t doubt that we’ll eventually have a case here. Even when we get [...]

If Meridian can do this, why not Idaho Falls?  Why not our school districts? – Halli
Meridian officials have notified the Idaho Freedom Foundation that the city will soon begin posting line-item expenditure data on the municipality’s website. That makes Meridian the fourth Idaho community to agree to a new level of transparency, allowing citizens to [...]

Is Idaho Falls beautiful?

by stone April 29, 2009

Anyone ever been to the east coast and seen all of the thick green trees everywhere? Or to Alaska and seen the massive mountains and glacier waterfalls? Or even to southern Utah and seen the funky other planet looking landscapes?  My question to people who have been around this country is, Is Idaho Falls beautiful [...]

Infant potty training, myth or reality?

by slu2 April 27, 2009

My wife and I started this 5 years ago with our first child.  Before our baby was born, my wife hand sewed a dozen or so cloth diapers, and we bought some pre-fold cloth diapers from Walmart as well as some diaper pins.
My wife had read about infant potty training, and the reason why we [...]

Locally owned restaurants

by tjgoofygrl April 27, 2009

Does anyone have a list of locally owned restaurants that have good service and food? I am still sorta new in town and have ate at a couple of locally owned restaurants, such as Hot Diggity (good dogs), Okies Burgers (great atmosphere), and Happy’s (good service). What about some other ideas and options?

Are You A Democrat, Republican or Redneck?

by Marcus April 24, 2009

Are you a Democrat, Republican or Redneck?
Here is a little test that will help you decide.
You’re walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children.  Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife and charges at you.  [...]

Gas Tax Standoff

by Neal Larson April 22, 2009

I’m surprised there hasn’t been a post on this yet. What do think of Governor Otter vetoing 35 bills (at this writing… it changes by the minute) to keep legislators in Boise until they pass a gas tax increase? Should the House stick it out? Or give in, pass a tax increase and call it [...]

Apple Athletic Club Preschool Now Taking Applications

by marketing@nai-idaho.com April 21, 2009

Looking for a great preschool in Idaho Falls? Apple Athletic Club is again offering preschool classes for 3-5 year olds this fall. This will be the 4th year of Apple’s preschool program, and it has been a huge success because of the superb instructors, low student-teacher ratios, and excellent facilities. The preschool now has a dedicated room for classes, and has added a half-hour of instruction for the same price as last year.

The Cyber Security Act of 2009

by Marcus April 21, 2009

From a member (mEATfLAPs) of one of several internet communities that I frequent:
I’ve been hearing a lot about the Cyber Security Act of 2009 in the past month or so. This bill is not being covered much if at all by the regular news outlets. In case you don’t know what the CSA [...]

Idaho Falls is the new home of Hard Hat Steakhouse, a locally-owned and operated restaurant that started out in Pepsi trailers at Rodeos and is now the largest restaurant in the city.  The menu offers everything from prime rib to spinach and strawberry salads.  The restaurant opened over the weekend to an overwhelming response – [...]

Social Networking Makes one…Immoral?

by Neal Larson April 14, 2009

A few weeks ago, I set up my own Facebook. While I did it to help promote my radio show — and to keep in touch with people from the past and loved ones who live distantly — I soon found that something was missing. The first few days I felt addicted, wanting to log [...]

Idaho Falls TODAY – Election reminder: Supplemental Levies for School Districts 91 & 93

by Joe Plumber April 14, 2009

Just a reminder that today, Tuesday, April 14, 2009, you have an opportunity to vote. Local school districts 91 (Idaho Falls) and 93 (Ammon/Bonneville) are holding their supplemental levy elections today.
If your district’s levy passes, your property taxes, more or less, will pretty much remain the same. If the levy fails, you will see a [...]

Obama’s European “Blame America” Tour

by hallistone April 14, 2009

The following was written by Richard Larsen, and published in the Idaho State Journal (Pocatello newspaper).

There is a common malady that afflicts many of our American comrades, known as the Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS), where everything wrong with the world is blamed on our former president. A corollary to that is BAS, or the “Blame [...]

According to recent government polls, at least 40 million Americans (who will admit it), have smoked marijuana in the last year.
Atleast 15 million Americans have smoked marijuana in the last month.

Pirates!

by untwisted April 9, 2009

For my whole life, being a pirate has meant something. A group of people has to do some special things to be called Pirates. They have to take over possession of cities or ships at sea, maybe even caravans in the desert. They have to act as true marauders, killing, raping, and pillaging everything they’ve [...]

Local Senator Bart Davis vs. Election Date Consolidation

by Joe Plumber April 8, 2009

Idaho Falls Senator Bart Davis (R-33) is leading the charge in Boise to defeat an election consolidation bill, HB.201, which would increase voter activity and turnout. The bill would establish a permanent calendar for election dates. This means the voting public would know when they could expect an election to take place – no more [...]

The Experience of a Lifetime

by EnjoyLife April 7, 2009

When people find out that I work in hospice I usually get the same responses:
“Oh, bless your heart, you must be a special type of person to do that.”
or “That must be really hard.  I could never do that.”
or “That must be a really depressing kind of work.”
While receiving these comments is run-of-the-mill for me, [...]

Pardon my gripe over public education

by Neal Larson April 6, 2009

[PRE-EMPTIVE DISCLAIMER: Before I proceed, let me make it clear that I largely love those who work in public education and believe they work hard. I come from a family with plenty of educators who have worked in the public education system. The people, in my assessment, are good. It's the system itself that is [...]
