Today is the anniversary of the 9/11 bombings. I still remember my shock and the sense of surrealness I felt as I watched the towers come down. Do you remember what you were thinking and doing 7 years ago today?
I am saddened that we as a nation are still at war and have yet to bring Bin Ladin to justice. Many in our community are very concerned about the state of our nation and the state of the world; about loved ones who have died or suffered, or are still caught in the trauma. I have several family member who have served in Iraq and some who are on their way back for a 2nd or 3rd tour.
This evening, from 5-6 p.m., the Idaho Falls Unitarian Universalist church will open their sactuary for candle-lighting, soft music, meditation, conversation and prayer. This is a non-partisan gathering for everyone in our community.
We welcome anyone who would like to join us.

Thanks for letting us know about this!
I was at home getting ready for work and shuffling the kids off to school. A neighbor called and was screaming hysterically into the phone causing me to turn on the tv. I didn’t get much work done that day. Ironically, the next day, while the entire air space in the country was shut down, a relative dies in a Mexican plane crash.
I’m glad to hear that IF has a UU community.
Some decent things these guys try and do some times, but the whole Universalist thing is but another of the globalist agendas. As well, people that are Christian or whatever essentially have to leave their religious views at the door and to agree that their teachings are no more accurate or important then those of Joesph Smith or Buhdha’s and that we can all just get along, It takes no consideration into various traditions, cultures or anything else.
Outside of that, if the UU’s really were a progressive oriented group as they proclaim, they’d get someone like Stephen Jones in here to talk about the other side of the story that the mainstream media loves to smear as conspiracy theories or other such rhetoric rather then informed Professors, scientists, aviators, engineers and 9-11 first responders/families of.
Smokyjoe,
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is a religious organization that combines two traditions: the Universalists, who organized in 1793, and the Unitarians, who organized in 1825. They consolidated into the UUA in 1961.
Both groups trace their roots in North America to the early Massachusetts settlers and to the founders of the Republic. Overseas, their heritages reach back centuries to pioneers in England, Poland, and Transylvania.
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion with Jewish-Christian roots. It has no creed. It affirms the worth of human beings, advocates freedom of belief and the search for advancing truth, and tries to provide a warm, open, supportive community for people who believe that ethical living is the supreme witness of religion.
I am proud to be affiliated with the UU church in Idaho Falls!
I have attended the UU church in IF also. I have always been treated with respect, dignity and acceptance. That is more than I ever experienced in my former church. I have nothing but praise for the UU’s here and really like the lessons they teach.
I never said that they weren’t “kind”. My intentions were not to say that they were not “nice” or kind. I won’t go into the actual religious teachings of theirs, but you are incorrect to say that they are any sort of a Christian group, that may or may not matter to one of course.
Though I don’t think that they are a politically progressive group, which as well may or may not matter to one as well.
I don’t have a problem with groups which are just political and not religious, but the whole idea that they take no real stand on an issue by saying that regardless of whether one is this or that or here or there, that all are correct and equally valid, to me, has no logic. It is like saying that 2+2 can equal 4 to me, but to them it may well equal 18 and that both are correct, Orwell said that freedom was the ability to say that 2+2 equaled 4, it is there that I have objections to them in, even if appreciating various side projects of theirs.
I’m still trying to read and understand your post (#6). I have had religious teachings at the UU church, maybe not in the form that we were raised with, but I could never quite believe everything I was taught as a child. Their basic premise seems to be kindness and acceptance. To me, they exhibit more of the teachings of Christianity than some of your other religions. And yes, they are a religion.
