We’re new-ish to the area, and stopped by the Green Belt / Riverside area for the first time today. We followed some trails and ended up under the Taylor’s Toll Bridge. There were all of these funny little rock water paths ending (?) in a circular, shallow pool, and then long channel things beyond that.
I’m baffled, what are these little water paths for?
And the pool?
Was it intended for wading?
For children? Ice harvesting?
If you could shed any light, I’d appreciate it, thank you!

Long ago, the city actually operated a tiny fish farm at Taylor’s Bridge, part of the attraction at “Sportsman’s Park,” which I believe is still the park’s name. The concrete constructions still visible beneath the bridge are what’s left of the farm.
Boy does that bring back memories if I’m thinking of the correct place. I’d almost forgotten about it. The footbridge used to be a cable swing bridge when I was younger where you could go over and see the fish raceways and feed them. Very popular among young kids to go to the middle of the cable bridge and freak your mother out by getting it to bounce and sway. Many a first kiss was stolen among the large dense deciduous and conifer canopy in the Park. Alas the place became popular with the homeless and was eventually “revitalized”.
the concrete/rock pool and long 20-25″ ducts?? were used as a fish hatchery back in the day as far as i know i think that was what my old man told me who used to work for the idaho fish and game…
Thank you! Anybody know of any old pictures showing the fish farm in action?
Judging by the smell, it’s still popular for the homeless, It’s a pretty place, but stay on the grass, too much exploring and you’ll find things you don’t really want to find. eeew.
