Sorry to have
back-to-back pervert posts, but Brad Stowell is back in the news. He’s still incarcerated, so that hasn’t changed, but a hearing officer ruled that Stowell was guilty of violating probation when he had an Internet-capable laptop, but was not in violation for not being able to find a job.
These verdicts will be used to determine if he should get parole during a hearing in October. The hearing will be well-publicized, so expect a very large turnout of people to testify against him.
My hunch is that there is NO way in Hades that Stowell will get paroled after all the flack the Parole Board caught for letting him out earlier this year. Riots in the streets if they do…

Hi, Open Mind…
I think you’re right, but I also know he’ll come up for parole again before his full sentence is served, and the sad fact is he will be released at some point in the future.
I’m kind of conflicted about this… I honestly don’t know whether it is better to have the guy out, with close supervision than to keep him locked up.
I remember a gruesome case from a few years back, when a molester who cut off the hands of his victim was released after over 20 years in prison- he timed out, and they couldn’t hold him. Within a few weeks, he went back to molesting, and murdered his targets the second time around. As far as I know, he’s on death row now, but he went from horrible to monsterous over those years.
As harsh as it sounds, maybe the old practice of branding a perp on the forehead would be the only adequate way of protecting kids. I hate that thought, but I’m convinced they never change; they may never do it again, but the impulse never leaves. Maybe brain surgery could take away the urge, but that thought is as scary as branding.
Will you also please publicize the Jeramy Freckleton issue? It’s important that the public be well informed when these people try and remove their names from the sex offender list. Freckleton was probably just as bad as Stowell, but he got off way too easy and shouldn’t be allowed to walk from his molestation and put kids at risk without warning to parents. The registry isn’t enough, but it’s the best we have so we all should be active in keeping people ON the list for our kids sake!

OpenMind, don’t worry about offending anyone. Who cares if we do 7 posts on this guy or others? The point is that people are talking about what these creeps are upto. That alone is well worth the number of posts. I would bet that scumbag would only want one thread about him and not 4! Keep up the good work and exposing these perverts!
BOP alert!! C’mon guys, lets not blow this out of proportion. While I agree the public needs to be informed of such creeps, we don’t need a new post everytime the guy jaywalks. His most recent arrest wasn’t even a concern to anyone personally. He had a laptop. Big freakin deal! None of us know if he was using it to surf for kiddie porn or to look for a job. What would each of you do if you were no longer permitted to use a computer or the internet. I’m sure some of you who live on this site would go into convulsions at the very thought of it. So while I agree it’s good to keep the public informed, I don’t agree with a new posting every time he spits a loogie on the sidewalk.
(Regardless….I completely enjoy your posts Open Mind. Thanks and do keep up the good work!)
I completely agree with posts #8 and #9. I think we need to keep this creep in the news until he is locked up for good. If he should happen to ever get out, then the more information there is out there about him, the more likely that no one will forget what he did. We need to keep it current for the newcomers to the area. Maybe the info will get to Boise (or wherever he decides to reside if and when he gets out) so that everyone there will know about him also.
Kudos to the Post Register. They are trying to keep him in the news. If he ever gets sent up to prison with NO CHANCE of parole, then maybe we could let our guard down a little on this one particular pervert.
IMO, child molesters should be branded so that everyone could tell when they walked down the street what they are.
Obviously some of you don’t understand what some of us are talking about when we say “New Post”. (we’re not talking about a “New Comment”, we’re talking about a “New Post”)
We can all agree that it’s important that the public is informed of this molestor and his actions. What we were talking about is a “New Post” on the same guy. We’ve already got 4 seperate posts on this site regarding this one man and his actions. There’s no reason we can’t update these already open posts with relevant information, as opposed to starting a whole “new post”.
As for “branding” someone….why not just castrate them instead? Or maybe we should gather them all up and put them on an island somewhere in the south pacific. Lets be realistic here. What we need to do is fight for tougher laws regarding these crimes. Idaho has an extremely high molestation rate compared to the rest of the country. Yet we have some of the lightest sentencing in the world. I think this kind of thing would happen a lot less if these sickos realized they’d get life in prison or the death penalty for their actions.
Bloop, point taken. But what we have now isn’t working. The perp isn’t rehabilitated because you can’t change what turns you on. The sentencing is too lenient for the rest of the society to feel safe.
When they’re out, we harrass them and make their lives hell, even though they did their time and paid the “price” we charged them for the crime, the same as any other criminal. Why are we allowed to do that? Would we want to do that to any other criminal, after they did their time or got out on “good behavior” ???
So if we don’t want them out, if we’re going to make their lives hell anyway, why not make our laws such so that the penalty is always permanent incarceration? (I can’t go to the death penalty for many reasons, none of which have anything to do with the nature of the crime.)
It just seems the more humane way to deal with this issue all around.

Why do we keep opening new posts for this guy instead of just replying to the 3 or 4 that we already have?
