Looks good Joe. My cats are already hounding me about submitting their very own article on 1001 reasons why cats should be spoiled.
Seriously, looks great! Keep up the good work!
Excellent job Mr. Eagle. It feels good to be a part of such a great online community such as IdahoFallsToday.
Now, how about a monthly contest of some kind? The winner could get an IdahoFallsToday.com T-shirt or keychain? As for ideas regarding the contest, that’s a tough one. I don’t think a trivia question would work very well, having the internet at our disposal answers would come rather quickly. Perhaps a monthly photo contest? We could have a different theme each month and people could submit their pictures and have the other posters vote on which picture they like the best. Keep the identity of the person who took the picture secret in order to keep the voting fair. Picture topics could include cute baby pics, animal pics, weather or scenery pics, sports pics, action, etc etc. And whoever wins gets a t-shirt and their entry included in the pictures that are already posted, or have it’s on little spot above the chat box.
(just a thought)
Who would pay for these T-shirts, mugs, keychains, or whatever the prize was. It is my understanding that this site is not a money maker, but one that just about breaks even. Maybe someone who knows more about this kind of stuff can educate me on this item.
This is the first discussion website I have ever participated in, and it has been such a wonderful experience for me. I spent several weeks just reading topics and comments to get the feel of what the site was about. The website layout and the fact that it is local have made it my only discussion website. Thank you for all your diligent work, Joe! And a kudos to those who have welcomed and encouraged me and others into this online community. You can’t possibly know how much I have appreciated it!
Good point 3333. Although the site isn’t a cash cow, he does make money from the ads that people click on. But then again, now that I think about it I haven’t seen any ads lately. When Vandal had the site there were a few ads scattered about the home page, but I’m not seeing them now. I guess Mr Eagle decided to get rid of them? (can you enlighten us Mr.Eagle?) And what about all the IdahoFallz t-shirts that are now obsolete?
With that being the case then, scratch the whole t-shirt/keychain idea, how about the winner just getting the picture they submitted put up on the site for the month?
Oh well, it was just a suggestion anyways.
How long will the redirect work before the old address is gobbled up by a porn site?
Just noticed something interesting. I use Firefox and have a script blocker installed. With the name change in effect it was blocking some of the scripts on this site. I didn’t realize this until I tried to post and it wouldn’t let me until okayed scripts on this site.
Anyway, my point is that I MUCH MUCH MUCH preferred the way the site looked with scripts blocked. It was vastly easier to find articles and I could literally see links to the most recent 50 or so right on the front page. I thought it was part of a new design to go along with the name change. I was very disappointed to have it go back to the old style as soon I allowed scripts so I could post. Right now with scripts allowed I can only see links to the most recent six articles with comments. Under the other way I could see around 50. MUCHO MUCHO BETTER. Is there a way to make that look standard.
Some of you probably have no clue what I’m talking about. Scripts are basically behind the scenes things on websites which are what cause popups, ads, etc. With a script blocker in effect you don’t have to see most of the ads and you don’t have to worry about all those annoying sites that start blasting audio / video advertisements at you when you go to them. You can still see them if you want (but really who would want to) but you have to manually turn them on.
That’s why I use IE7
Firefox still isn’t compatible with a lot of sites. To each his/her own I suppose. But there are some nice features w/Firefox that I wish IE had and visa versa.
I like the idea of winning some site-related schwag…I’d donate toward the funds to buy some of those things, if needed.
I like the photo idea, there’s gotta be other things we can do, too!
Most excellent new name, Joe!
And I really like the new forum format a lot. It’s visually much more appealing than the first version, and much more stable of my Safari browser. On the old one, many of the links caused my browser to crash unexpectedly and often, but no probs with the new one.
This is a very valuable community resource and door opener. I hope it prospers for a long time to come.
Joe or any moderator – It looks like the numbered comments on all threads have disappeared again. I like having the comments numbered because it makes it easier to go back and say “hey, guest in comment 123, what about…..?”
Any way we can get them back? Thanks!
#11 – I see comment numbers just fine.
The comments numbers were missing for me as well, until I hit refresh, now they show up.
I must just be that awesome. Upon my login, comment numbers returned.
