This is a quarterly series about commercial, residential, and industrial developments in our area. IdahoFallz has other great discussions on particular real estate and business developments, so this is a general-purpose/open forum on this topic.

This discussion is for talking about what what went good and bad with old developments, new developments, proposed developments, and describing “fantasy developments”. Feel free to discuss specific single-business developments, area developments like Hawks Landing, industry developments like Simplot, or residential developments like neighborhoods and apartment buildings.

Idaho is growing fast, and Idaho Falls seems to be at the head of the state pack. It should be interesting to have this discussion forum for expressing what we like and don’t like around southeast Idaho. Feel free to reference some development-related articles by publications like IQ magazine or the River City Weekly, but please link to their specific articles if they provide free access.

So what developments are on your mind?

Anyone know when the Microtel hotel on north Lindsey or Utah is going to open? I drive by there often and it is about the slowest development I’ve ever seen. I think the guy is building it himself. It’s his money and nothing wrong, but I’ve just never seen something go up so slowly.

I’m surprised to see a fitness center opening on the edge of town next to Madsen’s Ben franklin. It seems a little too far on the edge of our population.

Anyone know the latest Rite Aid story? I thought they were bankrupt and closing stores, but ours on west broadway seems to be hanging on.

I’d like to see more businesses on our side of town. I hate driving all the way to Ammon for major shopping or activities. I hate it that my gym is on the East side.

Of course, I would probably hate the inevitable traffic that will come with the westside development…so it’s sixes.

So Red Robin is coming to the old JJ North’s location near the mall, and Linens and Things is closing around August. Yahoo and boo-hoo at the same time. Geez, I love RR burgers but they are so bad for me!! I guess Bed, Bath and Beyond won’t have a lot of similar competition now.
