Free Summer Kids Movies at Edwards Theater

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to the newsletter or RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Our local Edwards theater in Ammon (Grand Teton Stadium 14) is showing some free kids movies again this summer.

This can be a great way to get your family out of the house, get free entertainment, and sit in air conditioned and comfortable seating for a couple hours. Be advised the theaters fill up, so get there early.

The free movies are shown on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, sometime in the morning about 9 or 10 am, though Edwards theaters makes it impossible to find out exactly. Several locations on the Internet provided the wrong phone number to our local Edwards, to a machine prompting me for an access code. I found their number via Google Maps (where a complaint was entered that another person could not find useful information also), which number said I had their theater but then directed me to call 800-FANDANGO, where you are forced to listen to a commercial before you can access the information, and it claimed these movies were not playing anywhere around here. The movie listing sites for this theater also do not list these free movies.

The movies are playing, it’s just not heavily advertised because the event packs in full houses from word of mouth anyways. I or someone else will comment in the start time later today, though you should plan to be there at least 10 minutes early due to crowds.

Excellent….thanks Joe!
Do you have any other information such as what the age limits are? How many kids per each adult?
Is Edwards freely giving out all of this relevant info?
Thanks again

I confirmed that both movies start at 10 am every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

No, they don’t advertise it very much. There’s a one page blurb on the regal entertainment website, but they don’t even list the times. At the ticket gate you just say you’re there for the free movie at the right time, they keep a tab going so they can tell you if there’s no room left.

I don’t believe there’s any age limits, but you probably know if your kid will or won’t sit through a movie. I think we saw a daycare group go there a lot last summer.

I think there has to be an adult with a group of kids, so no dropping the kids off to see the movie. There also has to be a kid with the adults, but I don’t know why an adult would go alone to these kids movies.

The other thing, besides making sure you get there early, is to expect the theater to be noisy. It’s packed with kids, and they’re all munching away and being noisy, just par for that course.

Cool. Thanks for the info

Next to Edwards is Pojo’s Playland. They just put in a playland like the one at Leos Place. The kids will love it. Keep it in mind if you want a place to take your kids to unwind!

Sorry to threadjack, but there used to be a Mexican restaurant in that Edwards complex next to the mobile phone store…is it still there? I think it opened in 2001.

Sol Rio? Yeah, it’s reeeeally great food. A Mexican friend of mine who knows authentic Mexican food says Sol Rio is his favorite local Mexican food restaurant in Idaho Falls.

Oh, so it’s still open? Sweet. I didn’t see it last time I was in IF but then again I wasn’t looking very closely.

Yeah, it’s still there. I have yet to go there because I heard it wasn’t very good. But since I heard differently here, I’ll have to try it out. That’s the thing with peoples opinions on food, movies, etc. What’s good for one person, may not be so good to another. That’s why I usually try to try things out at least once so I can be my own judge. I love Mexican food and its hard to find good Mexican food, so I’ll definately give this place a try.
Thanks for the input Joe!

Speaking of Mexican food: There’s a couple who sell mexican food out of this big silver rig. They sometimes parks in that empty lot next to that deli/sandwhich shop on the south side of Pancheri, right off of Yellowstone. I always wanted to try this guy and finally broke down and did last week. I bought two soft tacos for a dollar and I have to say, they were the tastiest most authentic tacos I’ve had in a very long time. For a dollar no less!
Now anybody that has had authentic Mexican food IN Mexico will tell you, most Mexican restaraunts around here aren’t very authentic. (I’ve heard Jaliscos (sp?) was really good, but haven’t tried them yet)
But if you’re on your lunch hour and you’re looking for a quick bite on the go, definately stop and give this guy a shot. I believe his wife works with him.
Now granted, its no Garcia’s were you get a plate of refried beans and rice and whatnot with your meal, but if you want a really authentic genuine no frills taco, stop by and try this place out.

Normally people don’t think too highly of buying food out of somebodys truck. I remember when I worked construction in my younger years, we used to call the lunch truck, “the roach coach”. And usually for good reason.
But after living in LA for a few years and knowing that some of those lunch trucks have some pretty awesome homemade mexican food, I’ve learned to have an open mind about some of these meals on wheels type establishments.

Sorry about getting off the movie topic!
Took our kids to see Ratatouille over the weekend and it was great! Two index fingers up.

Slim,

I know the guy who runs the “taco van.” He’s a great guy and makes a good living off selling his food. I’d recommend the “super quesadillas.” They are to DIE for!

Also, if you have an open mind about trying new things, ask for “tacos de lengua.” They are cow tongue tacos. I know it sounds gross, but trust me, it’s some of the juciest, most tender meat you’ll ever taste. I love ‘em.

Thanks for the tip JP. I definately look forward to trying some of the other dishes he offers.

I was thinking of doing an article on those Mexican wagons, and asked a Mexican friend about them. He took me to a few like 10 years ago when those wagons started showing up around Idaho Falls.

He thought he’d already seen a mass media outlet do a story on them, but he said they’re really “White-friendly” now with English menus.

He personally likes the Union Market, where the old Earl’s radio store was, on 1st street. But he said most of those wagons are great also.

Definitely try them!

You are off subject again!!! Edwards does free movies on Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, they get the money to run Edwards from concessions and those are not free during the movies so it is a way to get you in the door and buy your kids popcorn. The movies start at 10 if not close to because if they do not run them on time the other movies get pushed back. They avoid this like the plague. They do not want to start them early because they would need to open the theater earlier, and pay the employes for more time. There is information, you only need to look for it, it comes out closer to the summer when they know what movies they are going to show. No age limit, which does make the theaters tend to be loud, but even adults can see them for free. Again, get them in the door and they will be more likely to buy their delicious popcorn. Enough with the mexican food reviews.

People need to relax with the “you’re off the subject again!” remarks. 99.9% of every post on this site has veered off topic at one point or another. Often times certain topics segway into others and then other times we just “get to talking”……which afterall is what this site is all about. I say no harm no foul. It’s really not worth getting bent out of shape over, especially when the comment before yours was posted 9 months prior.
Have a great evening! 8)

Yup, I agree. I wondered why it took so long to complain about the thread jack.

yup u agree. with who?

Shoot, my bad. I was responding to the most recent post #13.

Talk about being unclear when I comment! I’m just batting .1000 on this site these days!

Hi,
I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a new restaurant opening this weekend. The LONDON. It’s located in the old Paris spot on Broadway. It is authentic “English” food. The people who run it just moved here from London. I’ve heard that it will have GREAT FOOD. So check it out!!

Thanks for the info! Was there a reason you posted it under the “Free summer kids movies at Edwards theatre” post? Seems to me it would have been better served under one of the numerous food/restaraunt posts.
just a thought ;)

Sounds good! I look forward to their Bubble & Squeak and Shepards Pie. I’ve made Shepards Pie for years, mainly because its so hard to find, so it’ll be interesting to taste it from an authentic restaraunt. I think this is exactly what our town needs….more “Mom & Pop” type authentic restaraunts. We have plenty of authentic Mexican restaraunts & steakhouses….now that we’ll have an English restaraunt, all we need is a good French, Greek, and fresh seafood restaraunt. (although the cellar serves a couple of french dishes) What was the name of that Chinese place that everyone raves about….Smileys or Happy’s or something like that? I look forward to giving them a try. I’ve been to a few Chinese places so far that I’ve been rather disapointed with. Hong Kongs and that place on 17th & Woodruff….
Thats one good thing that Areva and those other new corporations will bring to our community…..more variety in eateries. Channel 6 mentioned a new steakhouse coming to Snake River Landing area. (as if we have a shortage of steakhouses!) :) Hard Hat Steakhouse - They have some pretty decent steaks from what I’ve tried. I don’t know if they still do or not, but they had a little “kiosk” in the mall near the Old Navy store. They sold steak, ribs and roasts that you can take home to cook, but they also were serving steak sandwhiches there too. I’ve eaten there twice: one time i had the prime rib sandwhich and the other time I had the ribeye sandwhich. Both were incredibly tender and tasty.
What do people think of Ruby River? I had mixed feelings. The service was great and they’ve got some real cute waitresses there, very friendly & personable….but for the price I expected better. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with the food, but quality doesn’t match the high prices. I think Roadhouse & Texas Roadhouse have just as good if not better tasting steak, and at a much better price. (and their brand doesn’t hold a candle to Texas Roadhouse) But the drinks are strong and the waitstaff is great so no real complaints other than price. I have no qualms about paying for a good meal, but the quality should at least match the price IMO.

Here’s the 2008 summer schedule for free kids movies at Edwards Theater. I’m pretty sure the same rules apply, adults have to be with children to get in free, movies run Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They start at 10:00 AM. First come/first serve for seating. Parents - a good free way to get out of the house with the kids this summer!

PG/G choices:

6/3-6/4 Shrek the Third or Babe: Pig in the City
6/10-6/11 Bee Movie or Jonah: A Veggie Tale Movie
6/17-6/18 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything
6/24/-6/25 Nancy Drew or Mr. Beans Holiday
7/1-7/2 Water Horse or Charlotte’s Web
7/8-7/9 Surf’s Up or Wallace and Grommit
7/15-7/16 Alvin & Chipmunks or Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium
7/22-7/23 Fantastic 4 – Silver Surfer or Everyone’s Hero
7/29-7/30 Firehouse Dog or Arctic Tale

Awesome…..thanks for the info Reader!

My pleasure. I’ll be somewhere in the middle with my friends and our wild ones. I like that Edwards does this, it’s a good service to the community. Of course they probably aim to sell a lot of food and snacks to make up the difference.
Now, if only they had a mini-bar to help parents to enjoy the movie and chaos too….. Ha ha!

LOL….mini-bar…..oh yeah! :)

Forget taking the kids, I’m going for myself! :)

You’ll never make it out the front door…..you’ve got that ball and chain locked too tightly to your ankle. :)

Now THAT’s good comedy there!
