Strange Duets Musical Mashup Concert Festival Proposed

Back in the 90’s Aerosmith and Run DMC put out a mashup of “Walk This Way“, which was fairly popular, if only due to the disparate genres being mixed collaboratively. Since then, not many cross-genre collaborations have happened, I think there was a country and R&B mashup last year.

A currently popular YouTube mashup features Green Day vs. Kelly Clarkson:

This video makes me wish there were more cross-musical genre mashups. I am not a big Kelly Clarkson fan, but I can appreciate this song, especially when set to one of my favorite bands.

Other interesting music video mashups I found at YouTube include Linkin Park vs. Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani vs. Britney Spears, Green Day vs. Oasis, Britney Spears vs. Death Metal, Gwen Stefani vs. Madona, Eminem vs. Eurythmics, Eminem vs. Four Non Blondes, Eminem vs. Rhianna, and Eminem vs. Cotton Eyed Joe. I searched for these mashups a few months ago, so there are likely even more to be found today.

The most interesting mashups appear to be from the musical styles that are furthest apart. Metallica and Celine Dion would probably create a more interesting mashup than Metallica and MegaDeath.

Sure it’s a long shot, but imagine Idaho Falls sponsoring a big music festival each year where two big name artists from two distinct musical genres are invited to collaborate and perform a duet. Make it an annual event, raise funds for a charity like cystic fibrosis, make it a chic event in the middle of our desert. Yeah it’s a long shot, but we can dream of musical history being remade every year right here in Idaho Falls.

Which music artists would you propose to get together for a mashup/collaboration?

Anthrax and Public Enemy should get together and work out some aggression.

Oh, wait, they already did.

The soundrack to the movie “Judgement Night” was made up entirely of rock/heavy metal/rap collaborations like “Bring the Noize”…(caution: language)

Onyx + Biohazard: Judgement Night

Faith No More + Boo-Ya Tribe: Another Body Murdered

I like a good collaboration from time to time. I also enjoy a good out-of-genre cover like Marilyn Manson’s version of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” or Type O Negative’s version of Seals and Crofts’ “Summer Breeze”. But I can’t say I’m at all a fan of the mash-ups.

I’m not a big fan of mashups myself, but Disturbed did one of Tears For Fears “Shout” a year or two ago that is much better than the original.
Linkin Park & Disturbed also collaborated to do a mashup of Stupified and One Step Closer. Ehhh….I like both bands….but it just didn’t do much for me.

After doing a search online I found a messed up one by Snoop Dogg’s Drop it like its hot and Jimi Hendrix’ Voodoo Child. Yeah, I can definately say I’m not a fan of the “mashup”.

As for promoting an annual event of mashups….well, ummmm…..yeeaahhh….not so much.

I just had another idea…(one more relevant to Joe’s proposal than my first response.)

Does anyone remember the Metallica / San Francisco Symphony collaboration from way back in the 20th century? Amazing.

I wonder if local bands like Denots or The Unread would be willing to put together a show with either the Idaho Falls Symphony or various members of area high school symphonic bands.

Now that would be a groundbreaking event Idaho Falls has never seen before.

I like the idea of a couple major bands doing a dueling mashup, but how about many local bands doing mashes themselves? Some Of my favorite Mashups are:
