Free Ice Skating Rinks in Idaho Falls

Ice skating options are relatively affordable through the Idaho Falls Parks department, but you can try it out for free at a few local and informal ice rinks.
These “ice rinks” are just areas in gravel lots where the city has plowed up a 3′ wall of snow and poured water into the middle, creating a good-sized ice rink. I have seen one on Rollandet in the baseball field parking lot, and another at one of those west side parks (I think the one with the swimming pool). I have also heard there is one by the hospital (EIRMC).
These rinks look neat and rarely have people on them, so why not try taking the kids out to play on the ice? I’m sure just sliding around on smooth-bottomed shoes would be fun for most kids, and it is something different to do.

Nice one Joe. Yes, there are a few here and there in Idaho Falls and you’re right, I never see anyone on the ice. I took the kiddo’s down to the one at Tautphaus Park and they just loved sliding around. I pushed them and drug them, what a blast for them… a workout for dad
Have a good one, let’s see everyone get out on the ice!
Frank
Took the family to the Ice Skating rink at Tautphaus Park this weekend and had an absolute blast! It was only 5 bucks to skate and that included your skate rental. (children 3 & under free) We went Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t crowded at all.
I didn’t even realize we had an indoor rink in town, so I just wanted to let everyone know that it’s a great place to take the family. Its located in a big yellow steel building right across the parking lot from the zoo entrance. We all had a great time and can’t wait to go back.
