I know that I have written on this subject before but now I believe I shall take another stab at it due to new information that I have across.
Most of you who read the Post Register have probably skipped the legal announcements that are published in the classified section, but as I have come to find out, if you do read them they can contain valuable information.
After scanning through the legals in this Sunday’s edition, it has come to my attention that the city of Idaho Falls is taking bids for sewer and water line installation on Lincoln Road east of Woodruff. Usually cities do not install infrastructure such as water and sewer unless they are planning on annexing a certain area. Take Fairway Estates for example, the city spent oodles of money installing underground utilities years ago to ensure Fairway estates would be part of the city.
A year ago the city began planning to do the same thing to ensure that any development at the new Sunnyside Interchange would also be a part of the city.
I have also noticed that there is a long line of trees along Lincoln Road that are marked with orange ribbons, that tells me one thing, they will be removed, and why would a long line of trees need to be removed? Usually this means that the road will be widened, which is great news if this is indeed what is happening.
I shall keep my ears open on this one and keep everyone updated. In the meantime, if you have any information to share, please do.

My friend,
Why do you share one of our sources of great info?
I know you are talking about the Lincoln area. Are you thinking what I’m thinking – perhaps a store that starts with a “C” that someone was asking me about last week?
I’ll be in touch. Found another great source of info.
Meanwhile, DNIX, RULES as our source of new developments and improvements to our area!
Maybe I’m confused, doesn’t the city limits run along Lincoln out to Hitt road?
Or doesn’t it? Are you suggesting we might annex where I thought we already had, or we might annex some areas on the north side of Lincoln?
They can move east and north, as long as they stay out of my subdivision! My roads were plowed by 730 on the morning of our latest snow storm, my property taxes are reasonable, and I like it that way. When I lived in city limits (on the west side) my road was plowed ONCE all winter, and my property taxes were higher on a less expensive home…
If annexation is proposed, what can people who are opposed to it actually DO?
Can’t annex east of Hitt Rd. thats Ammon
Ammon city limits only extends north to 1st, doesn’t it?
I think up at Lincoln is out of Ammon’s reach. Where will we butt up to Iona is the question?
I’ve always wondered about annexing too. If you read or listen to the City Council meetings, they are always going over plots to annex.
Granted, probably most are new developments and the developer wants the property annexed.
Where I get totally lost is what if someone lives in the country on purpose and the city is slowly annexing land right up to their doorsteps? Does that owner “have” to be annexed into the city? Or, does the owner have any other choice (besides selling the home)?
Looking forward to your wise comments about this. Thanks.
As for now, the city limits of Idaho Falls only goes as far east as Woodruff, as Ammon’s city limits only go as far north as 1st street.
Idaho Falls’ area of impact goes all the way to 45th East (Crowely Road), where it borders Iona’s area of impact, with it’s southern boundry ending at Lincoln Road then following Hitt Road down. Ammon’s area of impact ends at Lincoln Road to the north and to the east at Hitt Road. The common divider for Ammon and IF is Hitt Road/ Sand Creek Canal. (This explains the bottlenecked portions of Hitt Road.)
As far as trying not to be annexed into a city, there are a few things you could do. You could voice your opinion to the city council, call your representative, or try to get a petition going. In the end though the city will usually win the battle.
As I see it now though, IF is probably planning to annex much of it’s area of impact to the east of Woodruff all the way out to Crowely Road due to all the new subdivisions either built, being developed, or being planned, and there are alot! There are also quite a few businesses out that way that could help to pad the cities tax bracket. This doesn’t always mean that it is a bad thing either because your taxes may go down if the city can annex all that property due to a widened tax base.
Ammon’s city limits extend just to the south of Lincoln Road between Hitt and Ammon roads. http://www.ci.ammon.id.us/weblink7/docview.aspx?id=2601
Dnix, Did you really mean to write that Idaho Falls only goes as far east as Woodruff? I struggle with that having relatives east of Woodruff who are city residents.
Could you have meant Hitt Road AKA 25th East?
Sorry I mean to clarify that there is part of the city east of Woodruff, just not the Lincoln Road corridor and north of it.
Idaho Falls’ city limits meet up with Ammon at Hitt Road then the limits turn west at the Sugarmill Substation and head over to Woodruff.
Sorry if that is confusing.
