The Rumor Mill…A new addition to the Row?

Hotel and Restaurant Row in Idaho Falls may be getting a new addition.

I have a new bit of information to report that has some back bone to it…babyback bone. I have heard rumors and have seen a site plan that indicates more dining establishments coming to the Broadway Wal-Mart site, and the newest rumor comes in the form of a steakhouse. Ruby River Steakhouse with five locations in Utah and one in Nevada is rumored to be planning a location in Idaho Falls. Also while I was able to snare this tidbit, it seems all the more likely that Starbucks will also be opening nearby.

Both Ruby River and Starbucks were announced on KIDK news last night.

Well dang it! This is why I don’t like working until midnight, and also why KIDK needs to archive. Now I feel like a real bum. Well thank you for the official announcement John, at least I know what I have heard is true.

Now on to digging up more stuff.

I’m looking on the KIDK 3 website (linked below in the footer) and I don’t see the story? I’m sure you saw it John, are you sure it was channel 3? They might be slow on the upload.

Ok cool, KIDK updated their site for the short story: (link deleted because KIDK still fails to archive their stories).

I hate linking to any local news site because none of them archive their stories. KIDK has said they should be archiving by year end; no word from the other outlets.

I like the Ruby Tuesday’s and the Starbucks, but a strip mall?!?!

Have the developers Conrad and Bischoff been deaf to the “new urbanism” discussions?

As to KIDK’s site being without an archive. How about for now they start by posting news that isn’t two weeks old?

AWESOME NEWS. Yes, I totally agree about KIDK posting current news. Wonder where they got the “tip” or idea to pursue the Ruby River story?

If you have never eaten at a RR, you’re in for a treat! UT-based, never planned to be a reiongal restaurant, but demand necessitated it.

If you want reviews, other than mine, (and I personally prefer it for many business meetings, but can explain that later if anyone wants to know why), go to City Search on Msn.Com. Enter either Salt Lake City or Ogden. Then Ruby River for restaurants. BOth have pretty comprehensive reviews.

When locals vote on their favorite restaurants, Ruby River, is always in the top 3. But, they serve far more than steak and prime rib. One of my colleagues loves their Salmon.

Congrats Idaho Falls. I know cities who want to lure this regional restaurant to their city and can’t make it happen.

Further proof of growth and positive things for I.F.

Wow, KIDK’s site now looks like their big-market sister stations (KOMO, katu). Still don’t seem to be archiving though – as that link above goes nowhere.

I miss the link to “statewide news” aka the Associated Press. Oh well.

12 Say What? December 5, 2006 at 8:58 am

I saw their news story last night and it looked like they did their research. On the website they say they got their information by interviewing the City of Idaho Falls Assistant Planning Director, Todd Meyers. Are you saying that they didn’t interview him and just stole the information from this website? Get real.

I don’t work in the news business but sometimes cross paths with people who work in the local news media. I get tired of hearing a few people here constantly slamming the local media. Usually it’s not even anything specific, just general vague criticisms.

Please don’t just continue blindly accusing them of stealing stories, not covering the right stories, one conspiracy theory after another, you name it. Most of them try hard and do a pretty good job.

Say What,

Please re-read what I wrote. NO WHERE did I say they didn’t do their research. And, I didn’t slam them.

I know a lot of media visit this site for a fact. I found KIFI’s stories very similar to some that have been written here. I didn’t accuse anyone of anything. I asked a question.

I would appreciate you asking questions too, for clarification, before you accuse someone of something that simply wasn’t done. Like you get tired of “hearing a few people here constantly slamming the local media,” I get tired of people making assumptions without asking for clarification first.

I’m not making assumptions any more than you are making implications. What are you implying when you say you found KIFI’s stories very similar to some who have written here? Being one of the first to bring up a subject on a blog does not give one permanent ownership to the story. The local media has countless stories every day that you don’t find here and they don’t go around gloating about it.

Say What,

I’m not going to continue this discussion. I don’t see is as productive. News is news and often the tv stations have news that are very similar to each other.

Beyond that, you’ll just have to decide for yourself as you are make an issue out of an observation. EOS.

OK,

You say you didn’t slam KIFI but you insinuated that they need to read this site to get their story ideas. Then you say that the reason you take issue with my comment is that I imply that you implied that they didn’t do their research.

It seems like you don’t want to continue the discussion because there is truth to my comments. You said it yourself. News is news, and different outlets will have the same stories. Having a story first doesn’t mean you own it. And mainstream media need to do a lot more research and legwork before presenting a story than someone making a comment on a blog.

If you didn’t want me to make an issue out of an observation then don’t post it on a public website where responses are encouraged. I didn’t realize when I first read your comment that your question was directed only at DNIX. Maybe you could just send a personal e-mail next time.

NOW it’s EOS.

I for one, would like to see news stations present a more clear version of their story. So many times my husband and I have finished a news broadcast, looked at each other, and said “say what?” It’s like high school or college interns are writing some of the stories and cut off the end. Either that, or we hear 2 half-stories mixed into one. Not all the time, but enough it makes us miss the big city professional news broadcasts. (the only thing we miss about big cities!)

A little editing would go a long way here. Also, we vacation frequently and would love to see all three stations keep their websites updated on a better basis. 6 and 8 have gotten better the last year. I think Ch 3 changes their web news once or twice a month! Very frusterating when you can’t see the broadcast.

“new in town” I do agree with what you have said about not knowing all the story, yet your last paragraph is inccorect. I have watched KIDK Tv-3 web page and they are updating constantly. They have a new web page and it works great. I was concerned about KIFI Local News 8 site because I miss having text that explains the video clip. I have heard they now have a full time web director so that may change.

Heard a rumor but am not sure where to post it for discussion, and the source is excellent but I can’t say further —– apparently St. Al’s hospital out of Boise had talks break down with Mountainview, so they have instead bought the land off the highway exit near the army surplus store.

Is anyone here in the real estate business to confirm this rumor? I wonder what their future plans are with this site?

AKA, do you even have a point to make here? If not, please move on to another site. Some of us would like to have educated discussions and not sling mud or vague accusations against each other. Besides, until you are running your own great site about a city, please keep your “short and incomplete” comments to yourself. Thanks!

Regardiing my post, if you are so confused about it, don’t get upset, it’s just a loop you are out of. Everyone knows there have been issues at Mountainview Hospital for some time. Or perhaps you are a little too connected to the truth in this rumor?

Who can tell us more about the new fire stations? I read the I.F. City Council minutes and the mayor confirmed that the city is in the process of buying Nick’s Trading on Broadway for a fire station.

I thought I read on this site, less than 2 weeks ago, that Ball Ventures had donated land by the river for a new IFPD and IFFD building. Would that mean a new headquarters for IFFD and a new fire station at what has been Nick’s?

Well it looks like Ball Ventures is at it again. They want the Redevelopment Agency to include the east bank of the Snake River south of Pancheri into the Urban Renewal district. The reason for doing this is so they can construct a Candlewood Suites.

For those of you who may not know about the Renewal District, it started with Lindsay Blvd, then Taylor Crossing, then west of TC where Walmart is, then south of Pancheri on the Snake River’s westbank, then Downtown IF, and now the forementioned location.

I like the idea of redevelopement, but I wonder if there is any sort of burden to taxpayers? It’s a fact that creating a URD spurs development in an otherwise blighted area and creates new jobs but it seems like these URDs are taking on a life of there own.

Either way it is good to see what is coming from these districts, but at the same time, when development reaches south to Sunnyside, is the city going to have to build a new water treatment facitlity? Because I wouldn’t want to live or work next to it.
