State Controller’s Race: Jones vs. Twilegar

I wanted to start a discussion thread of Idaho’s candidates for our State Controller. The two contenders are JackieTwilegar and Donna Jones.

You can talk about most anything regarding these two you would like. I would personally like to see discussion of their past experience, training, accomplishments, and mistakes rather than what their party philosophies are.

Twilegar’s campaign site is http://www.twilegarforcontroller.com/. Jones’ campaign site is http://www.donnajonesforidaho.com/about.asp. It appears neither candidate has a wikipedia entry yet.

I was not going to start a discussion on this race, for the personal reason that I only knew the state controller is something like the state accountant, and I was bored to death in my graduate accounting class.

However, then I read in the Post Register that Jones, with only a high school diploma GED, is running against Twileger, who has an MBA in Finance! Jones’ site biggest educational claim is “Her education has come from several channels – including the school of political hard knocks.”

Ummm, yeah, nice try. If I ever said that in a job interview for a professional position, I wouldn’t be surprised to get thrown out of the building for wasting that company’s time. Why is she trying to run this excuse on Idahoans?

Jones has reportedly said if elected she will hire people who have the requisite education. Hey, how about we save some money and instead elect someone with the education? I view this position as requiring expertise more than leadership.

Jones’ lack of education makes me think back to Mike Adams’ “Republican Ticket” endorsements a few weeks back. If Jones is so qualified for state controller, Mike Adams, if she loses surely you will hire her to be The Children’s Center accountant, right? What’s good for the goose is surely good for the gander, right?

Discuss away education or experience that you deem important, or their statements or mistakes you deem important.

Jones also refused to debate Twilegar, probably because she knows she’d get embarrassed up there for her lack of education.

I notice the position pays $85,800- $93,756 over the next four years. This probably explains why Jones suddenly thinks she is qualified for it. She is thinking more of herself than Idaho’s well-being.

For anyone who says they value experience more than education, the aforementioned idahoptv site lists much more financial work experience for Twilegar than for Jones.

So it comes down to objectivity vs. subjectivity. Objectively, Twilegar is clearly more qualified and experienced for this position.

Subjectively, Jones is a Republican in a state that has elected morons like Anne Fox and Helen Chenoweth simply because they were the Republican option.

So will you vote objectively or subjectively in this race?

A G.E.D.? No wonder she got elected to the state legislature. . .

I will be embarrassed if Donna Jones wins. Very embarrassed.

I have to agree with Jessica on that one! Even Mr. VanderSloot, the odd man that he is, has realized what an asset Twilegar (who can pick up where JD Williams left off) would be to the controller position.
