Celebrating One Year Online in Idaho Falls

It was one year ago today that I made the first post on the first Idaho Falls blog, writing simply “It is dawn in IdahoFallz. Let’s see what the new day brings.” I had only a vague idea then of the direction I wanted to take for the site, and certainly had no idea if anyone would be interested in participating with this model.
It turned out many people have enjoyed participating in local online discussions. It turns out many people have valued participating in discussions where they have the choice to keep their anonymity. My conviction that the quality of what you have to say is much more important than who you area has been strongly reinforced over the last twelve months.
I had been planning for a few months on doing a new theme (layout and look). I spent many hours defining my criteria and picking one that was in the ballpark, and many hours working it over to my will. Just a few days ago I realized I was not happy with the new theme, and recognized how many more hours it would take until I was happy with it. I’ve spent the past year tweaking the current theme, and there were less than twenty changes I could make to the current theme and meet my redesign criteria.
I am de-cluttering the home page, moving some things off to their own pages, or the Idaho Falls area websites to the footer space. I will be maneuvering the top elements around to make a cleaner top header space, and the front page articles will be excerpted to the first paragraph so you can scan many articles at once.
I’ve also been spending many hours doing boring backoffice work like updating the numerous script plugins used at IdahoFallz.com. Most of the boring ones are completed, and the new, more exciting features will be rolling out over the next couple weeks. One of those new features already released is the ‘Past Blasts’ (probably will be renamed though), which displays the post made last year. Many great articles were written by many great people over the last year, so I wanted to give those articles a little more traction over the coming year.
It’s been an enjoyable first year for IdahoFallz.com, and I look forward to even better times in the second year.
Take it easy,

Congratulations on a very successful first year. For someone not really sure where this site was headed, I think you’ve done a great job! Thank you for all of your hard work!!!!!!
How about Past Blatz, in keeping with the theme?
