Shasta Should Sing

It appears the Shasta Groene/Joseph Edward Duncan III saga has passed a major milestone with this morning’s plea agreement on state charges.

For Duncan, we can now only hope that either a) federal charges result in his death penalty or b) computer experts can crack his encrypted image files to discover the depths of his depravity and result in more charges for his child sexual abuses. Perhaps then we can all finally avenge the murders of Shasta’s brother Dylan and the rest of her family in north Idaho.

As for Shasta, I realized the other day her name is unique enough and has become so well-known that she could become a one-name entertainer (ala Cher, Madonna, or Oprah). I think she should take some vocal lessons and quickly release a CD.

I certainly don’t intend to be facetious about this suggestion. I see it as a way for her to turn the most horrible experience imaginable into a positive direction for her life. At the very least, the first album’s sales alone should be enough to set her comfortably for life. I think we can all agree Shasta is someone who should be made as comfortable as possible now. I wonder if anyone has suggested this to her?

It was heartbreaking to hear that Shasta and her father were homeless.

I still think someone should help Shasta throw together a quick music CD, maybe even just her singing some cover tunes.

I think her single-name recognition and well-known story would drive many sales for her, and help them get on their feet. This kind of thing can even be done with a computer rather than a whole studio.

Joe, It is sad that they are homeless currently. However, I saw a report last night on TV that the community of CDA (and maybe Spokane too, I don’t know), has donated land, labor and building materials.

Shasta will have the new house completed by this summer. Some national news anchors are watching this and reporting, so it will get done.

Apparently, the house will be put into a trust in her name (I’m not a lawyer, so I might have stated that part wrong). Anyway, the house is intended for Shasta to live in as long as she wishes.

It is amazing what a community can do when people put aside their differences and come together for the common good of a child.

Good idea, but I’ve been a male singer/songwriter by that name since 1980! Maybe I’ll write of their plight & donate any profit to the family. Yours In Song, Shasta
