Mike Adams’ Tall Tales

Thursday morning I woke up, had a cup of coffee and sat down to read the Post Register. What a treat I was in for, local fiction writer, Mike Adams had a new piece in Talk Back. While I will stop short of calling Mike Adams a damn liar, I will say that he has a commanding grasp of the art of telling tall tales. The story in this column focused on Richard Stallings.

I ran into Richard Stallings Thursday evening. After a very delightful conversation, I asked him if he was aware of Mike’s column today. He said he was, and it didn’t happen. Stallings did go on to tell me that George Hansen, convicted felon, refused to debate him twice that year. In George’s defense, he did offer to have Connie, his wife, debate Stallings for one of those two refusals.

I think that Mike showed his true colors once again. Here is a man that is willing to make up great stories for news print. Perhaps, with his ever sharpening skills at truth witling, he could write a book. I mean it worked for Rush Limbaugh, it should work for Mike.

I have one suggestion of included material in Mike’s book of tall tales, should he write one. Mike, make sure you include that classic story of yours, where you threaten to kill Ann Rydalch. The whole thing about it being a joke, and then waiting months to come clean about it, I mean that is funny, funny stuff.

I think that I will retract my previous statement. I don’t believe Mike Adams. I don’t believe a word out of his mouth. What kind of man makes stories up? What kind of man sends a death threat to a person who just defeated him, only to say it is a joke. What kind of man will resort to school house bulling when he feels wronged?

Mike Adams, that’s who. I believe he would lie, cheat, steal, and maybe even worse, for what he wanted. To everyone that reads his tall tales, belive them if you will. Just remember that Mike Adams is a Republican Precicnct Chairman, a member of the Bonneville County Central Committee, and a slick story teller.

What do you think Idaho Falls? What story of Mike’s is your favorite?

I think I would want more than Richard Stallings’ word that this didn’t happen before I pass judgment either way. Can anyone else verify either party’s statement?

IO that is a good point, the PR doesn’t have online archives that go that far back, so I asked some folks that were familiar with those campaigns, and no one remembered it the way Adams did

One point I haven’t seen addressed which I did in the Post Register’s “Post Talk” is that Mike Adams is talking about a candidate for a statewide office turning down a debate on a small-time AM radio station. On the other hand, Governor Risch and others have refused the long traditional debate forum provided by the League of Women Voters and Idaho Public Television. That’s quite a bit different and Mike Adams is insulting our intelligence if he expects us to believe otherwise.

I just worry about perspective on the Opinion page. If Mr. Stallings turned down a debate, did he refuse to debate as Mr. Adams says or did he say he wasn’t available that particular night and forget he’d ever missed a debate. Does that make sense? They could literally both be right and both be wrong but given the lack of information, we may never know.
