Extend the greenbelt to the west.

The city finally has a stand-out welcome sign. There is also a plan for a nature/walking trail that will go some distance to the north so visitors and travelers can get out and stretch thier legs. Knowing this I can’t help but think, “Why stop there?”.

Instead of ending the trail why not extend it so that it connects to the greenbelt. Along the way of the trail there could be ponds, flower gardens, small streams, light posts, maybe even a clock, (the same pattern of landscaping at patterns Taylors Crossing).

Imagine coming to the end of the trail and ending up at the falls, walking over the (proposed) footbridge and walking through downtown.

This “by-way” or section of greenbelt could possibly draw more tourists and natives alike into the downtown area. When tourists ask what the best part of Idaho Falls is, the most popular response is the greenbelt, it gives the city a unique identity. Does the greenbelt have to stay next to the river? A pathway like this could start a “trail” system in and around town, and could be friendly to foot traffic and bike traffic alike.
