Good to see, I love this site! Word of mouth in this community can have significant impact. Regarding advertizing, I can see why you wouldn’t worry about it, but either bumper or regular stickers that just had the web addy would be nice to hand out, and very inexpensive. Also, I personally would probably sport an IFz Tee shirt. Oh wait I just found the link at the bottom, there. Do you have a donation button?
Thanks! Word of mouth is a nice quality measure, because it takes a lot to move people to personally advocate.
I hadn’t thought of bumper stickers cuz I avoid them, but I think I can cook one up in the same cafepress store that is hosting the tshirts now. Maybe a big order of them would be good to have a supply to hand out locally?
I would wear the biggest grin if I ever saw anyone locally wearing an IFz tshirt.
Anytime any goods are bought through our cafepress store http://www.cafepress.com/ifzshop the site gets a couple bucks on each item also.
Kinda helping out two ways with that I guess. Support and marketing at the same time.
I forgot to say, a big way to help out is exposure to new people, and a big way to do that is setting homepages / start pages to this site. Obviously mine is set to open here first, and some friends have done that.
If more people could set their browser homepages to this site, and could get co-workers and local friends and family to set their browser homepages to this site, we would not only have many more visitors but much more activity in the chatbox, comments discussions, and in more articles being published.
IdahoFallz.com has earned the right to be a browser homepage not just because it’s the biggest local connections site, but also because we serve as a portal to more other local websites than anyone else. City workers could do themselves a favor by setting Ifz as their homepage, and they could quickly access local sites much better than the current official city website does.
Of course, that was if the city wasn’t still blocking IdahoFallz.com at their firewall-level.
A few people have asked why I don’t have a Paypal donation button up anymore, and why I’m reluctant to put one up again.
I had one up for a couple months a long time ago. Like many things here, it was an experiment. I never received a single donation through it. I read another blog talking about how many blogs try it for short times and most realize (a) it never garnes much significant money and (b) it looks and feels like begging. So I removed it and do not believe I will ever put one up again.
When I hear people ask about donations, I’m flattered, but my reaction is always, “Why not just buy an ad?”
Why not get two things for your money: supporting this medium and marketing your business? If you don’t have a business, why not buy an ad for your favorite local charity or organization? Get their consent, agree to pay for whatever spot you want, and we’ll put an ad up for them.
Plus, when local business owners see others are using this site’s ad vehicle successfully, they are more willing to do the same themselves.
That way your money helps four ways instead of just one.
Great info. Logical conclusions. By the way, on my way out west this morning, I saw some free adding for you! Somebody drew a big IdahoFallz.com/the community site in chalk on the sidewalk. It it out there just past the Pizza hut on Broadway by a bus bench. You must have some fanz over there… You should snap it or send kewl0069 that way. Just thought you’d like to know.
