Bruce Willis for Idaho Governor?

Minnesota was the first to elect a celebrity governor with Jesse Ventura. California was second with Arnold Swarzenegger. I propose Idaho become third to elect a celebrity governor, and Bruce Willis is our man.

I still don’t know if I’ll vote for Butch Otter or Jerry Brady. I was dissappointed by Otter’s seemingly uninformed support of net neutrality legislation, and I have mixed emotions on hearing him admit he felt he wasted the last two years as our congressman (did he waste our time more than his, or should I be glad he can be so brutally honest?) I’m just not hearing many of Brady’s plans so I have to wonder if he has any big plans, or if he can reach a decision?

So I have a political fantasy about Bruce Willis being written in as the next Idaho governor. He’s obviously got the star-appeal, name recognition, a legal Idaho residence, a respect for protecting Idaho’s natural resources, and he’s more macho than all the legislature combined.

I did a little research on Bruce to learn more about him (I’m not usually into the entertainment news). He apparently quit drinking almost 20 years ago, is very generous, and believes in gun-rights.

“Everyone has a right to bear arms. If you take guns away from legal gun owners, then the only people who have guns are the bad guys.” (Source: http://www.usaweekend.com/00_issues/000213/000213willis.html)

Bruce Willis is apparently as disgusted with corruption and special interest groups as the rest of us:

“Special-interest groups show up in Washington with lots and lots and lots of money, and when they leave, they don’t have the money with them anymore. You can talk about campaign reform, but that’s all just the little tiny tip of the bull that goes on down there.” “I’d rather have somebody that didn’t know anything about it than someone who’s made a career out of lying and cheating and swindling people.” (Source: http://www.usaweekend.com/00_issues/000213/000213willis.html)

Bruce also apparently believes in smaller, simpler government, but still using government to take care of those most in need:

“Until they take the money out of politics, I don’t think anything’s really going to change. There’s a guy named Arlen Specter who ran for President a couple of years ago. In his campaign he held up an index card and said, this could be your tax return. One single card. I went, ‘Wow, that’s it. That’s right.’ It doesn’t have to be this huge bureaucracy. I’ve been accused of being a staunch Republican, but in reality I have just as many Democratic ideas. I’m a Republican insofar as I believe in less government intrusion into our lives. And I also happen to believe in taking care of the needy, the elderly.” (Source: http://www.rd.com/content/openContent.do?contentId=26494)

One source describes some of Bruce’s political concerns as ranging from Native American issues, environmental protections, and drug law reforms. These are some distinctly un-Republican beliefs, would they fly in Idaho? (Source: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000246/news)

Could someone ask Bruce what he would do about the Interim Governor Jim Risch’s special session on August 25? Is Bruce a Republican, a Democrat, an Independent? Fiscally conservative and socially liberal?

“I’m sick of answering this [expletive] question,” he says. “I’m a Republican only as far as I want a smaller government, I want less government intrusion. I want them to stop [expletive] on my money and your money and tax dollars that we give 50 percent of… every year. I want them to be fiscally responsible and I want these [expletive] lobbyists out of Washington. Do that and I’ll say I’m a Republican… I hate the government, OK? I’m a-political. Write that down. I’m not a Republican.” (Source: http://movies.msn.com/movies/hitlist/2-24-06)

Sounds independent and Idaho enough for me. What’s the deadline for filing as a write-in candidate?

Not sure if Ronald Reagan was the first celebrity governor, but he beat Ventura & Swarzenegger by decades! President Reagan was elect governor of California in 1966 and again in 1970.

I wasn’t paying any attention when Reagan was elected governor so I can’t say one way or the other about him, but with Ventura & Swarzenegger I think the electorate elected the “celebrity personality,” and not the “real person.”

As for Bruce Willis being elected Idaho’s governor — I would not like that. However, if Idaho could elect “John McClane,” now that would be good!

Doh, forgot all about Ronald Reagan, first as movie star then as California Governor. You’re right.

Bruce Willis hates the INL and would do what ever it takes to destroy them. He hates anything that has to do with nuclear energy and will stop our efforts at clean and cheap electricity. plus he would tear idaho falls apart by killing the site. Do not vote for him definatly he is bad for Idaho falls. my step dad had to kick his rear off the train tracks at the site because he was blocking the waste trasports and was causing a serious problem . Bruce Willis for Governor no way im voting for La Rocco he is anti meth all the way and wants to start the biggest war on meth known to idaho.

You know what? We need a celebrity governor just as much as we need a governor who feels he “wasted his time” as a U.S. Senator and a governor who is, well, a nice guy, but is somewhat of an empty suit. Dan “I’m Idaho!” Adamson sounds better to me all the time. I like that he wanted everyone who voted in the primary to get a free taco. At least he has ideas. . .

1. I feel like I know less and less about Jerry Brady, despite the time he has invested in his campaign. I know how voters can get bumper stickers, signs or donate their time and money to his campaign. Otherwise, the only thing I think I know about him, is he appears to pass on answering certain questions. Maybe that’s a primer for the job?

2. Butch Otter now can campaign in eastern and southern ID, since he got married last Friday. If he feels he wasted time serving in the House, perhaps he’d like to donate his salary back to the people of ID who paid for it with tax dollars. What do you think – should the people ask for their tax dollars back for his wasted two years?

If Butch isn’t elected Gov., I wonder if he’ll stay married to the new Mrs. Butch (Lori Easley) Otter? I hope so, if that is what SHE wants. After all, he was so clear with the media that it was Lori’s request to have the doors locked at the church when they exchanged their vows.

I hadn’t realized their age difference previously. I don’t think age should necessarily be a factor in most marriages, as long as both people are older than 18 years old. I was just surprised and truly didn’t know the 20+ years difference in their ages. Perhaps the media got their ages wrong, so they are closer in age than I read. It certainly appears Butch has succeeded with his seemingly preplanned personal and professional life, except for his two wasted years in Congress. But, I wouldn’t know for certain, I am just relying on various news sources in the Northwest.

I admit, it would be interesting to see how Butch would handle living in the Governer’s mansion, given that his former in-laws (Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Simplot) donated their mansion to the state, so it could be used for the Governor’s residence. It might be awkward, but I guess Butch has had to think about something during his “wasted two years,” so maybe that was his focus.

3. Interesting info that kewl0069 shared about Bruce Willis. I didn’t know he was anti-nuclear etc. I wonder if he were to run, if Demi and Ashton would campaign for or against him?

So Joe, maybe it’s back to the drawing board, or picking another name from your hat to find another candidate.

Oops. Indeed Otter is a member of the House. That right there, folks, is why I’m not running for any public office.

Maybe Vin Diesel? Does Vin still reside in the Bone area?

Or maybe Carole King, if she hasn’t sold her ranch and moved out yet.

Then there’s always Adam “Batman” West.

While we’re digging up B-movie and TV actors, why not consider Dawn Wells, of “Gilligan’s Island” fame, for governor? She resides at least part-time in the Driggs area. She probably has a grip on local issues to rival that of anyone else running for the job.

Well I was kinda hot on the B.W. Idea til the dabate started. There are a lot of stars over there in S.V. (we could dig up Burt Reynolds, maybe?) but I think Harrison Ford may be the man. Don’t know anything about his politics, though.

Just happen to know some folks who have dealt with Carol King over property and I think she’d rather protect her privacy and live on her “ranch” over the concerns of the locals. ’nuff said.

Frankly, there’s enough problems with rich Californians selling their 6 and 7 digit homes, taking the money and buying sprawl here already without putting one in charge. I know and like some of these folks, but the effect on our way of life and economy is real.

why does everyone think we need an actor to run?? Dont the people already act to get the job? We need someone local and that has lived in our communites to run for governor. I want to see someone go after the meth problem in Idaho and also start programs to help single fathers raising theyer children. Like legal aid to fight the mother in court like she gets. Programs that have other local females show her how to be a lady since i am a man and dont know how to act like one. someone that will make child support fair and equal. I dont get child support and all my money goes to fight false child support claims. I spent 9,000.00 fighting my daughters mom while she was in prison. and also fighting my sons mom. She claimed i make 80,000.00 a year I really do not i get social security because i have a disability . I had 10 days to get a lawyer to respond or she would win they would ahve based it on 80,000.00 a year and it would have been triple the amount of my check. My sons mom is taking poor care of him and gets a free lawyer in pocatello and i have to pay for mine so its an uphill battle because i am a man. he should be living with me. and my daughters grandma claims to child support she has my daughter so they file a claim against me and they garnish my funds. We lost our home in Salmon ID and my new car and knocked 2 banks upside down and lost everything. all i got out of it was a credit from child support and i have full custody of my daughter. Something needs to be done to the child support division we need a governor that will make it an equal system. We need a Dads organization in Idaho falls thats run by men not a woman. when the child support mistake occured we ended up homless. there arent any shelters for men with children only battered women or women getting out of prison or sikngle guys with out children. the whole thing needs relooked at more and more dads are stepping up and raising theyer children and the system isnt designed for them.

As to your first question, see the title, here. As to the rest of what you have to say, it’s a bitter agenda but you could definately get some vote out of me on that platform.

Besides, if Harrison Ford ran and made campaign necklaces, he could run as an Indie pendant candidate.
