I don’t mean to keep making our local KIDK channel 3 television network my punching bag, but this keeps happening online and it’s hurting their own reputation.
I’m talking about archiving. I keep seeing websites that link to a KIDK news story, but when you get to the KIDK website, it’s an error 404 ‘page not found’ that you get. I believe that KIDK is either deleting stories from their website after a short period of time, or they move the stories off to an archives with different web addresses.
Therefore, online writers link to a KIDK story, but after a short period of time the link is dead because the story cannot be found at KIDK’s website anymore.
I don’t pretend to know the complexities or inner workings of KIDK’s website, but it seems their web master/design department has not heard of permanently linking news stories so they can be linked for a long time around the web.
It’s called permalink. It’s become an online standard. Please try it.

I have passed along your concerns about the ch 3 website to our webmaster here at the station. It’s my understanding the reason why that message comes up has nothing to do with us in IF–It actually has to do with corporate. But we are looking into doing whatever’s possible to fix the problem.
Awesome, I want to see the KIDK site be more functional so bloggers can link to more stories there.
Joe,
I just wanted to let you know that our current software does not provide a good platform for archiving. We will be updating by the end of the year and the new system will have the features you are referring to. Thank you for your comments.
Well it’s about time KIDK did this upgrade, especially since they became a Fisher station. Does that mean Fisher is actually making a commitment to eastern ID?
Glad to see the news! I’ve also hit several dead links to KIDK’s Web site- I think some of it has to do with the “wire” stories they update with from the AP for “statewide” and “national” categories.
Thanks for visiting, Web master!
I think it was actually the Fisher corporate template that didn’t include archives. I saw a Boise affiliate that looked exactly the same. Plus their explanation.
