Idaho Falls Democratic Convention Today
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to the newsletter or RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Its finally arrived, and here’s my list of people I have questions for, and the questions I intend to ask. These were generated by myself and others visiting IdahoFallz.com. I will post my notes later today or tomorrow after I have gathered responses. Feel free to comment today with more questions if you want them asked.
Some questions I have in mind include:
General/Any candidates:
Why would Democrats do a better job than Republicans?
Won’t the Democrats just increase my taxes for social programs?
What would Democrats do about illegal immigrants in Idaho?
What issues and pledges are the Democrats running on this election?
Why are Democrats so despised in Idaho?
Given that Democrats are not elected often in Idaho, what actual experience do Democratic candidates have?
Do the Democrats want a higher minimum wage, and why?
Will the Democrats repeal “Right to Work” laws? Why or why not?
Democrats inherently seek to reach consensus and while noble it inevitably wastes considerable energy; is the Democratic party doomed through its own nature?
After losing so many elections for so long, isn’t the Democratic party in its death throes? Evidence?
A recent poll indicated more Americans thought Bill Clinton was a better and even more honest president than the current George Bush, yet Democrats seem scared to use him on the campaign trail. Who are the Democratic rock stars you intend to bring out this election season?
Do you regularly read any blogs? Which ones?
News reports and polls indicate Republican leadership and policies are failing. What would Democrats do differently and better than Republicans?
Republicans are traditionally the fiscally conservative, yet nationally they have allowed our debt to balloon several times to record levels and in-state they spent the surplus on pet projects rather than grant a tax refund? Can Democrats be fiscally conservative, or do they think that is not an appropriate course right now?
A post was written on IdahoFallz.com questioning how gay marriages harm the principle or institution of traditional marriage, and that in fact hot young hetero people likely strain traditional marriages more. I agree the argument of principle/institution is weak. Tell me in terms of dollars why the gay-marriage ban is needed, if at all?
What are their education, experience, and strengths/success factors?
Why will they do a better job than their Republican opponents?
What is my impression of individual candidate personalities?
Idaho Falls State Representative and Senate Candidates:
Southeast Idaho appeared to lose power in the recent water issue. Instead of recharging the aquifer, Idaho Power saved Boise residents a few bucks on power bills. Do you agree with how that turned out?
Attorney General Candidate:
What do you plan to do about sex offenders?
What do you plan to do about Idaho’s meth-addict problem?
Superintendent of Public Schools Candidate:
What’s your education and experience?
Why will you do a better job than your Democratic challenger?
What do you think about virtual/online education?
What do you think about community colleges in Idaho?
What do you think about the Idaho’s credit mismatch between high school graduation requirements and college entrance requirements?
What are your specific plans to improve Idaho education?
Governor Candidate Jerry Brady:
Would you call a special session of Idaho’s legislature this fall, as Governor Risch is trying to do? Why or why not?
What’s your position on a gay-marriage ban?
What’s your position on sending Idaho National Guardsmen to border-patrol duties?
Illegal immigration is a complicated issue, especially in Idaho. What do you plan to do??
What do you plan to do for education in Idaho?
What do you plan to do for healthcare in Idaho?

Vote:
The Democratic Party doesn’t have a chance of succeeding in Idaho Falls until they learn not to throw all their efforts behind a single candidate like they did with Jerry Brady the last time. Four years ago, they had several smaller office candidates who had great potential to take the vote but it didn’t happen because the party wasn’t giving any assistance to anyone but Brady. How about grooming a couple of candidates for local offices so they can convince the Mormon/Republican base that Democrats don’t really have horns and that a more balanced system is to everyone’s benefit. Paying for an ad with the aname of the candidates isn’t showing support.
