How Idaho ignited the second civil war

Movie plots involving Idaho are so few and far between that I am surprised more Idahoans don’t watch the ones that do exist. I recall an old Fonda movie about time travel that was set at the INL.

The Second Civil War (1997) is probably the biggest mainstream movie plot ever to focus largely on Idaho. The topic is all about immigration, so this movie is more timely now than ever given our current immigration debates.

The Idaho governor (Beau Bridges) closes Idaho’s borders because he’s tired of immigrants flowing in. The Idaho border closure is enforced with the Idaho National Guard. The President (Phil Hartman) has to rise to the challenge, and U.S. Army troops start massing at the Utah border. This movie also stars James Earl Jones, Denis Leary, and Ron Pearlman.

The Second Civil War starts out quite hilarious (possibly more since us Idahoans can recognize numerous Idaho locations like the Boise Capital), but it becomes very tragic at the end.

I recommend watching this movie, if not because of the current immigration debates or because the movie is well produced, if only because it’s one of the few movies to focus on Idaho. What other movies are set in Idaho (and actually addresses Idaho issues - Dante’s Peak doesn’t count)?

I believe Cry of The White Wolf II, starring Elizabeth Berkely, is supposed to take place in Idaho, and was actually filmed in Island Park.

Surviving the Game starring Ice Cube is also supposed to be taking place in the remote mountains of Idaho.

I remember a tv series from the 80s that was supposed to all take place in Idaho. I can’t remember the name of the show, but it was all about search and rescue. It was always winter time, and the team always went out on Phaser snowmobiles looking for lost people or avalanch victims.
