I’m always amazed when I meet people who don’t know how fantastic the library is.  I’ve lived in a big city and I grew up in a small town, and although the libraries in both areas were pretty great, they didn’t compare to what we have here.  A library card is free for residents of Bonneville County.

 Did you know…

You can check out DVD’s – and not just some boring nature program or documentary, but actual new releases.  Some current examples include: Flightplan, The Fog, Just Like Heaven, Walk The Line, just to name a few.

You can fix your own car – under the Resources link, you have access to the complete Chilton Total Car Care automotive repair manuals, which includes every manufacturer of domestic and imported vehicles, as far back as 1954!

You can research your family tree – from the same Resources link you can access HeritageQuest Online – a genealogy resource.

You can draft your own divorce – with access to the Thomas Gale Legal Forms database you can draft a will, a pre-nup, bankruptcy, and landlord/tenant agreements just to name a few, I’d suggest still running it all by a lawyer, but it should save some time and money.

You can get help with homework or just research something that interests you - with access to the Biography Resource Center, which has biographical profiles, full-text articles and selected websites on nearly a million people, and The Gale Virtual Reference Library, a database of encyclopedias, almanacs.  There is also access to databases that include national newspapers, magazines, as well as books, shorts stories and poems.  All available 24/7.

You can get your GED – well almost, they have resources for studying and practice tests to help you get ready.  As well as links to help you search for colleges, graduate schools and vocational schools.  Also practice tests for civil service and military exams, and licensing tests for law enforcement, real estate, the postal service, and many other fields.

There are so many things available to you through the library and I’ve barely scratched the surface.  Find out more by accessing the library online www.ifpl.org, or call 612-8450, or just go in and look around.  The Idaho Falls Public Library is located at 457 W. Broadway.

I picked up my FREE copy of My Antonia at the library this morning. I must admit I would have never picked it up if not for this ‘What if everyone read the same book’ program. Since there are discussion groups I thought I would give it a try.

There are lots of copies still available down there if you want to get a free copy, you do not even have to present a library card.

Then there are discussion groups on Tuesday lunch hour and evening. I hope people get involved with this program and it continues with more books.

Kudos to the IF public library for trying something new in our community.
