Beware of Internet Explorer security holes

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to the newsletter or RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Stop using Internet Explorer for browsing! Stop right now, at least for the next few weeks, if not forever!

The reason is a major security hole that allows hackers to execute harmful code in your computer. This code is being found on numerous websites, including normally safe sites like ticket-booking or insurance sites. The reason is the sites are hijacked and the malicious code is inserted, so you go to your normal site and do not realize the danger lurking there.

The harmful code is also being found in some BBC news articles, with a link to read more about the article taking you to a site that installs the trojan horse on your computer.

What kind of threat does this newest IE vulnerability pose? Most of the same, loads a trojan horse on your computer that logs it onto an IRC and waits instructions from the hacker. Those instructions can include sending ALL of your personal information to the hacker, then turning your machine into a spam-sending drone

Protect yourself and try to restrict your IE browser usage for the next few weeks at least until Microsoft issues a patch (they have indicated possibly around April 11).

Once again, I strongly recommend downloading and using the Firefox browser instead. It’s free, provides a better browsing experience through tabs, imports your bookmarks with one click, and is immensely more secure than IE.
