Protect yourself by signing rather than using PIN

There are news reports all over of a huge fraud against debit card users. Apparently some retailer hasn’t been properly purging PIN numbers from their records and a bunch have been stolen (won’t they fry once we find out who screwed up?)

In the meantime, everyone is encouraged to check your bank statements and ensure the charges are all valid. You are also encouraged to start running your debit cards as credit (with a signature) rather than debit (with a PIN). I think businesses are charged a slightly less fee when cards are run as credit than debit so this should help our local economy profit more, also.
