Hot dogs: Home Depot vs. Sam’s Club

I could smell the hot dogs cooking outside as I did the self-checkout thing at our local Home Depot. The smell was delicious, and I resolved to finally buy one. Three things stopped me as soon as I walked out the door towards the hot dog stand.

There was a line, there was nowhere to sit, and the minimum price for a hot dog seemed to be $2.50. I kept walking, even though it smelled really good.

We drove around the corner and went into Sam’s Club. We beelined for the cafe, and felt quite superior paying only $1.50 for both our hotdog AND our drink combination. They handed us our precooked (rotisserie) hotdogs, and we smirked that they were even foot-longers. Surely the Home Depot hot dogs were mere regular lengths! I was delighted by the neat hand-tumbler that dispersed my relish.

Our first bites into the Sam’s Club hot dogs shed new light on our ‘deal’. They were not that tasty, and we thought of how much more flavor the grilled hot dogs at Home Depot must have been. These weiners were also almost two inches thick, which kept making me think of … my hot dog craving was cured after a few bites and I threw half of it away.

Maybe next time I will try those Home Depot dogs after all.
