94.3 Wusses Out

Everyone has different musical tastes, and I like to think I can enjoy most music forms. I do, however prefer hard rock like that played on our local 101.5 and previously played on 94.3.

The programming at 94.3 has wussed out recently, though. First someone thought it a grand idea to start playing nonstop Christmas tunes the day after Halloween (waaaaaaaay too early for that), now they have switched to a soft tunes format. The occasional Elton John is reasonable enough, but mostly now they play soft junk nobody has ever heard of and likely will make you slit your wrists if you can’t switch to another station quickly enough.

Sheesh, changes are inevitable, and it is time to quickly find another new format 94.3. The current one sucks. I’m taking 94.3 off my preprogrammed button today.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m tired of all the “soft rock” stations and Jr. High school pop music. I don’t know who made the decision to change formats, but that person should not be working radio. Too bad.

[...] Many eastern Idahoans were disappointed when local radio station 94.3 played two months of Christmas music then switched to wuss programming. [...]

It is interesting to re-visit issues from months ago to see if situations or people have changed. I think that is a great idea, Joe!

94.3 used to be an alternative/punk rock station and was HUGE for local kids. Then the station manager pulled the funding and switched to the new awful format. Sad, really.

94.3 used to be my favorite station too and I’m no kid. I’ll be 50 on my next birthday and it was my favorite station as well as most of my friends. The format switch they made was probably the worst thing that ever happened to local Idaho Falls radio.

As much as I like having local information and programming available on the radio, I finally kissed it goodbye this past summer. I resisted for 6 months and broke down and ordered XM radio. It’s the best alternative there is, and I’ve never looked back. I’ll miss you, local radio, but I’m afraid we will never have a relationship again.

I’ve experimented with XM. It’s good stuff! Their metal channels are pretty good, save the fact that they don’t have a real Power Metal station yet.

So it’s iPod for me still …

-Q, I heard about pandora, it does something like watch what you play and what you skip to form an opinion of what you like, and then recommends other music you might also like, right or wrong?

Have you had much luck with it?

Yeah, it’s great. I listen to it at work every day. Basically you can tailor it to play the type of music you want. You can input songs, artists, etc. and you can tell it what you like or don’t like and share your stations with other folks. Plus its web based so you can listen to it anywhere there is computer access.

The music catalogue is amazing. There are a bunch of artists I would have never heard of otherwise. Give it a try.
