A Super Wal-Mart in Rigby? This is something that is probably not too far fetched. Being how the only grocery store (of good size) in Jefferson County is Broulims, combined with the growing population of the county this may not be too far off. A Wal-Mart in Rigby before Rexburg? In five years or less, my best guess is yes. Unfortunately.

There is already a Wal-mart in Rexburg. I can’t remember if it is a Super Wal-Mart or not… maybe that is what you were getting at!

The one in Rexburg is not a Super Walmart. I heard somewhere that when they built the Walmart in Rexburg, they had to agree to never put a Super Walmart in Rexburg. Maybe that is why they are going to in Rigby.

As a resident of Rigby (looking to move back to IF) I don’t see a super Wal-Mart in the very near future. Who would shop there? Rigby only had 3000 residents in 2002. The rest live in the county. People driving in from Menan to shop at a super wal-mart? Ririe? Mud Lake? Not when there are 2 in Idaho Falls and a regular Wal-Mart in Rexburg. Wal-Mart isn’t going to put up the kind of cash needed for such a small retail footprint, and Rigby can’t afford to put up any money to entice them to come.

You may be right that Wal Mart doesn’t need a store in Rigby in the near future, but if growth keeps up at its current pace, there may come a time when Rigby will have its very own Super Wal-Mart. No one was expecting a second Wal-Mart in Idaho Falls, but both are doing well. As far as Rexburg getting one, that will probably come within the next couple of years, I have also heard that Winco may be looking to Rexburg. I don’t keep up on Rexburg but every time I go there I always see something new.

I think aside from the information I heard (which is that they already bought the land), it’s even money if Wal-Mart would build in Rigby.

Yeah city limits has 3k, but the rigby wikipedia page says the area is about 5k, and that was in 2000. The area has grown much in the 7 years since then.

Hope the god they don’t come to Rigby. If so - please let it be a distribution center. I heard a while back that they were looking at land here but that is was about 5 miles off the highway. Can’t see them putting a full-fledged store here.

Wait a little longer and Rexburg to Idaho Falls will be one city! Growth is life and without it a city will die…..happens over and over again throughout the USA. Jefferson county is one of the fastest growing counties in ID and the reason is fast disappearing, smaller property Taxes and it dosen’t take a politician long to smell money and come up with a method to get at it! So, with that said, I am sure a Walmart will eventually show up as will many many others, New York once had 3000 people also!

I asked my source again, and the word is still yes the Super Wal-Mart is still planned for the Rigby area.

Land has been purchased.

joe is correct. my source in bentonville has also nodded.

Any latest developments on the Rigby WalMart?

Where is this land that was purchased?

When might they break ground?
