Vucovich’s Generous Claims

The election is over, but something really struck in my craw that Steve Vucovich printed in his campaign materials.

First, I have to admit I was torqued at him anyways over the whole Kroc center debacle. Say what you will Steve about if the center will make or lose money, but you act as if you have no conflict of interest in the matter and you do. The Kroc center would compete indirectly with your athletic club, and you act as if that was immaterial; it was material and obvious to everyone but yourself.

When I got your door hanger, I was impressed with your charts showing how Idaho Falls has disproportionately raised property taxes per capita compared to Nampa and Twin Falls (though I wondered why Pocatello was not included in the figures). You made a great point.

Then I read your bullet points about what a great guy you are, and one item stated that you ‘contribute’ x amount of dollars annually in property taxes . ‘Contributed’? You act as if you are such a generous guy to donate these dollars, as if you do not have to pay them like the rest of us. I am glad you are doing well for yourself and can afford property to the tune of paying such high property taxes, but nobody thinks you could be a better leader simply because you make more money.

Then I read the same thing in another campaign material where you claimed you ‘contributed’ x amount of dollars annually in employee wages. Please! You again use the word ‘contribute’ as if your athletic club is a charity and you are running it at a loss to help the community. Your business profits and those wages are an investment for your profit. Again, I am glad you are doing well, but trying to pass these things off as if they come from your generosity demeans your image.

I’ll be sure to ‘contribute’ my exercise expenses elsewhere.
