I can’t answer this question. I don’t know how we get a sports arena in this area if we don’t have a room-tax to fund it. Do you have any ideas?

I had a class with an ultra-conservative who always railed against public funding of pretty much anything!
After awhile, he did make sense, though. If a sports arena or McDermott Field baseball is so great, why isn’t if privatly funded?
Why should we fund anything? Can’t a lot of these things be done privately?
Of course the flip side is that banks are too skittish to fund visionary ideas, or that many great venues would never get built if we didn’t collectively fund it.
What are some alternative ideas to public funding?
