EDUCATION: Graduate of Idaho Falls High School
Bachelor of Science degree at Utah State University
Masters of Business Administration at University of Utah

LEADERSHIP: Served in US Army for 5 years , rose to rank of Captain, one tour in Viet Nam as company commander of approximately 200 men.
Have served on many boards: recently- Regional Development Alliance and
The Idaho Innovation Center

BUSINESS: I have owned and operated Call Forest Products for the past thirty-five years.

EXPERIENCE: In 1994 I was elected to the Bonneville County Commission. I served 6 years, four as Chairman. When I took office Bonneville County was in financial crisis. Working as a team, with leadership and financial acumen, we were able to turn the county’s financial woes around and to improve employee morale. During that time we built a new Bonneville County jail, the Three B Juvenile Detention Center and put together the agreement between the City of Ammon, Bonneville County, and the City of Idaho Falls, which is now rebuilding the Sunnyside Road. During this time, we were STILL able to lower the property tax levy by twenty-four percent, while STILL providing high quality service.

In 2001 I was elected to the Idaho Falls City Council. I have served on the City Electrical and the Public Works committees. I have worked to secure our energy needs into the future, while maintaining a low cost basis. I have coordinated between the three government agencies in the rebuilding of Sunnyside Road. I have worked to lower the city tax levy in the past two years.

If elected Mayor my top priority will be to establish an atmosphere within City Government that will be receptive to business and thereby cultivating business and growth. I want businesses to know that they will be welcome and that we will help them to locate or expand within our city. I want to create an atmosphere and attitude that will treat our citizens and taxpayers as customers and thereby foster better services, efficiency, g00d-will, and a “user-friendly government”.

I will also continue to bring cooperation between surrounding cities and Bonneville County. We have many items of common interest and we should be working together for the benefit of all our citizens.

I will work to see that your City Government strives to spend your tax dollars wisely. We must use common sense business principles to provide the services that you require. I promise to lower the amount of hard-earned tax dollars that we take from you. I have a proven record that I can do this.

Throughout my time in public office, I have maintained an “open-door” policy. I want the citizens to know that I will always be available for their comments, their complaints, and even for the occasional tongue-lashing.

On November 8th the voter will go to the polls to choose a new Mayor for Idaho Falls. On January 12th the new Mayor will be sworn into office and becomes responsible for numerous divisions and sub-divisions, five hundred and eighty-five full-time employees, and a budget that is one hundred forty-seven million dollars.

I know that I have the education, experience, leadership ability, and the proven record to perform this difficult job from the day I would be sworn into office. Who you elect will make a difference in the direction the future of Idaho Falls takes.
I urge you to please go to the polls and exercise your right to vote.

What is your feeling about the escalating cost of golf in idaho falls? And please no bs about it still a great deal compared to cal, etc. P.s. Why if a course in the county doesn’t make county residents eligable for a discount ie sand creek

I was wondering what you think will be needed to bring more large business to this area. I feel that maybe we do not reach out to large business enough due to the smalltown ideals.

I’m disappointed that they are changing the name from McDermott field to Melaluca field just because of the size of Frank Vandersloot’s donation. I read in the editorials today that mayor Milam supports this change. What are your thoughts on the name change and why?

I think they should rename Idaho Falls to Melaluca for everything that the Vandersloot has done for Idaho Falls

You mention that you want an atmosphere that will cultivate business and growth. What exactly are your plans to accomplish that?
